If any of you would include those little truth-isms when you post of your negative experiences here in Las Vegas, then others will get the clear picture of why your experiences here in Las Vegas are, in fact, so negative.

MomMom, I hate Las Vegas because I have children and this is the scum of the earth place to raise them.

I did not lose my money in a casino, well, maybe $100 in the 10 years I have been here (and I still hate this place) mostly because I don't find joy or entertainment in gambling. I lease because I couldn't buy a home as the prices were so outrageously high. I am now sitting in a foreclosed home with my children and had paid the California landlord $1300/mo while she pocketed the money and did not pay the bank for 11 months!

I work for a casino company, who like others out there, have downsized and cut back until what remains of the work force is demoralized and broken, but we're told we should still be thankful we have a job. I just kind of believe there is more to life than being thankful for a job that is just a little better than being on welfare.

I left my husband in 2003 for many reasons, but Vegas seemed to bring out the worst in him. I also went to my home state for about a year, but tried to do right by my kids and came back so they could visit with him more. BIG MISTAKE!

I spent the better part of 5 years in the freaking family court trying to appease stupid judges who threatened to put me in jail for 25 days and change custody of our children to an abuser. The ex attacked and beat our daughter as well as me and the stupid DA in this city REFUSED to prosecute him and acted like I was the perpetrator.

The ex kidnapped our son from his daycare and the stupid police REFUSED to retrieve him and likewise the stupid DA REFUSED to prosecute him though I filed a custodial interference complaint AND got a Return of Child signed by a Judge.

On top of that, in the summer when children should have the opportunity to play outside and enjoy the weather, they can't because we live in a freaking 110 degree summer desert! Las Vegas has the highest ratings for teen pregnancy, suicide, high school drop outs, addictions of all sorts, the school system ranks 49th, and there are no quality public secondary education choices in this state like available in other states. Every time I turn on the news NV has ranked the best of the worst again.

Yes, I know a lot of people that love it here. They haven't experienced what I have experienced in this horrid, stupid, backwoods city. I know there are a lot of good aspects for people that like this type of town. I just happen to be one that does not.

So there are my "truth-isms" as you put it and I've only scratched the surface. I visited this town in 1979 when I was about 15 years old. My mom asked me then what I thought of Vegas. I said, "Nice place to visit, wouldn't want to live here." I should have taken my own advice. I will eventually be able to leave and when I do I will follow the old Irish rule and NEVER look back.

Sierramadre, I am sorry you have come across such misfortune here. Vegas does seem to bring out the worst in certain people even people who never had problems elsewhere. I have heard some horror stories about family court here and I have worked alongside some very unfortunate (now adult) children who fell victim to the system here. I am not sure its much different anywhere else though. America as a whole I believe seems to fall far short when it comes to looking out for the best interest of our youth.
I wish you and your children all the best in getting out of here, it sounds like it would be good for all of you.

I always wondered why people complained of the hot weather here in the summer? When its a 110 degrees here in the summer, don't kids go to the community swimming pool? I see quite a bit of kids out in the early part of the day, or even the late part but I can understand the hottest part might be quite extreme? But how about those cities where its below 0 for months? What do children do there?

This is so sad that you blame your unhappiness and problems on the city where you live. If your kids can't play in the summer because it's 110 outside, it appears they have inherited the same attitude. I really venture to say that I hope before you move to this new wonderful city you've chosen, you try to adopt a more "yes, I can attitude" and man up a little or you will soon be pissing and moaning about how unhappy you are in that city. Life is too short. Everyone, everywhere has had their share of problems with the government and court systems or have been touched by crime or worked in a job with no appreciation or been stung by either a landlord or tenant or gone through a divorce or is going through one. It's called "life." It has nothing to do with what city you live in. It's all about how you look at it and handle it.

AA702: Yes, I try to take my children to community pools often, but they are often so crowded you can't breath. We consider ourselves vampires in the summer and only venture out after the sun goes down.

We escaped this past summer to Denver for my daughter's birthday. It was beautiful! Even though it rained once every day we were there the weather was awesome! We went to the amusement park and spent about 4hrs. I never felt the sun beating down on me like here and ended up with a slight sun burn. But, I was IN the sun. That is something this fair skin lady doesn't do often.

As for the children in the zero degree cities --- apparently they study. There is a correlation of higher academic standings and cold winters of the data I have reviewed.

Thanks SoHoVe. I can't remember ever having so many challenges as I have faced here. Some of the people I meet just don't seem 'right' if that makes any sense. I have no close friends here because it seems everyone I've known has moved within 3-5 years of living here or it seems others just want to use you in some sort of way. I just don't have time for them.

Thanks so much for the well wishes. Believe me, I'd rather be in a place that I loved and had nothing, than to be somewhere I didn't like and have material things. Personally, I think life should be enjoyed and if you're not happy in a geographical location, try something new. I love nature, wildlife, camping, etc., not so much desert. I think 10 years is long enough to "give it a try." Don't you think?

LOL... thanks for that. I have 'man-upped' even though I am a woman and I have fought tough fights. I'm tired dude. My kids DESERVE a better place to be a kid. Thank you, "YES, I CAN" and will given the right time and preparation.

You are right, life is too short. I've seen my kids miss out on knowing so much about life living in this city. I come from a place of rolling hills, green grass, tall trees, wildlife abundance, yards of 1/2 acre or more that you don't have to water and more.

Yes, there are draw backs that I don't like about my home town. But, if I had to weigh the 2 cities, I say there v. here is a better quality place.

And, if you don't believe me, do some research on the quality of life here v. any where else. The worst place second to NV is Mississippi. I guess at least they have gators? LOL
