How about this? A guy I know worked for Smith's for 30 hours a week, "they" cut him down to 22. Than on his 89th day (90 days is probation and automatic Union membership) they cut him. Kid works hard, the kind of employee you can build a business around.
Turns out, 74 days is the probationary limit. So the Smith's manager screwed up and had to rehire the guy. Of course, now he'll be under a microscope.
But this is the dirtiest kind of pool, from a national business, and unfortunately can be expected here --when the guy was initially fired, the skunks waited until the end of his shift on the 89th day to tell him he was fired-and he could reapply in 30 days. Thanks, Smith

With the economy the way it is today, employers will get away with a lot. Just like when it was hard to find people to hire, the employees probably took advantage as well. The pendulum always swings, people and employers will have their grudges to carry.

Smiths use to be a honest good place to work before Kroger bought them out.

And the first week of January you are dumped. We have a large Amazon call center here and they do all this hiring before the holidays and once the holidays are done so are the jobs.

Does it matter? At least he gets a chance to make some good money for a while. Seasonal work is better than no work.

By looking at the monthly work hour increase, its safe to asume that the job is a holiday temp job.

I lost my job a few weeks ago so I'm looking for work now too...customer service mostly. There seems to be jobs around but you know how it goes, you send resumes and hear back weeks later.

That's fine, at least it's work for a couple months. I pretty much figured it was seasonal. Even though they don't tell you up front.

got news for you.... 1. its not a call center at all 2. its been open a year and they are doubling in size 3. if your numbers are good, they will keep you.. right now (and its not even season yet, its busier than heck.. and 4. amazon DOES NOT hire anyone directly (except mgmt), they are hired through temp services first....
