Several persons mention income tax as if it is a litmus. Washington state has no income tax, voted for Obama by 17 points, has a female Demo govenor and two female Demo senators.
Oh, btw, I should probably consider Wi, hear Madison is great!

I wouldn't consider state tax as a litmus. WY and AK don't have state tax though, and both are red states.
Perhaps it is just me but I still don't get how political climate and affiliation would be a deterrent with regards to investment or vacation. I could understand your point if you couldn't walk down the street without protestors and a large amount of opposing political views constantly in your face, but if you take a look at the current representation at both the state level as well as the federal level I think you will find a great deal of diversity, and as a progressive liberal I would think that you would appreciate said diversity.
I hear good things about WI as well, and although the concealed carry issue is a deal killer, the fact that open carry is legal as well as the legality of Class III weapons (full auto, short barrelled rifles, short barrelled shotguns, supressors aka silencers, and destructive devices/any other weapons such as pen guns) does make it very inviting.

Las Vegas is a diverse city and growing even more diverse. Next door we have legal prostitution. We have a large gay and lesbian community. You'll see the rainbow flags at the bars on paradise rd. just north of Tropicana. The city also has a lot of welfare recipients, I mean A LOT! We have a large homeless and druggie population too. They are probably not rabid right wingers. BTW, What is your litmus test? What makes a rabid conservative a rabid conservative? It will help the community answer your question.

To many so called liberals (many of whom are anything but), anyone who disagrees with their Big Government agenda is a rabid right wing nutjob.
LV is going to have some conservatives from the local population and transplants from areas like the MidWest but, given its sex sells image, is not likely to be a conservative Mecca. As someone else mentioned, the local Congressional reps are (D)s which is also a sign. Even so called 'Blue Dogs' vote with Obama and the hard left 60-70+% of the time.

Come on guys you are being silly. LV has homeless and druggies. Which SW city does not?
It's most conservative democratic politician in high office is under the most stringent of Right Wing attack. The two strong liberals are not under any place near the pressure.
It is liberal dmocrat and anti=tax and somewhat conservative. And not very consistent.

Las Vegas is the most Democratic and most liberal portion of the State of Nevada. However, Las Vegas Democrats are substantially more conservative and independent than other Democrats in the rest of the country. Nevada's two largest ideological groups are by far Conservatives and Libertarians, and this also holds true in Clark County.
Clark County has an excellent mix of different ideological groups. Clark County has a reputation for supporting state-wide candidates who reside within the county. Clark County supported Republican Senator John Ensign (Summerlin) in 2006 and Democrat Senator Harry Reid (Searchlight) in 2004. Also, it is interesting that despite Nevada voters being deeply divided on the issue of abortion, both senators support strong restrictions on abortion, and both consider themselves pro-life and have voting records to match (Senator Reid has been slightly less consistent).

It's a gross over-generalization, but there is some truth to it. I don't think 'liberals' are really that liberal, but they do tend to believe in bigger Government and more of a welafare state than people like myself. That leads to higher taxes, as in places like California. In terms of bad schools, the (D)s have had control of public schools for a long time and the municipalities with the worst public school systems (DC, Chi, etc) are often (D) strongholds.

It is a well established truth that NV underfunds schools as does Utah, Arizona, New Mexico. Only Utah gets away with it. Nevada always underfunded schools...even well before the CA and midwest influx...so it is nothing new.
It is reasonably clear that smaller class sizes provide a better outcome. It sounds reasonable and it is.
The Las Vegas schools actually do reasonably well for a very large school system. I am not sure smaller systems do better...there are simply more of them and some will be better than average others worse. Probably change little in overall performance.
Nevada controls public schools through the state legislature. That has not been controlled by the democrats except recently. Whatever exists in NV was created by NV voters...particularly their fondness for low taxes.
You reap what you sow.

In regards to California. There are far more Conservatives and Moderates in California than liberals. I agree however that it has been destroyed by the Democratic machine, as Michigan has.
