Hi!

I'd like to bring my 6 year old daughter into a bank to open a bank account. Anyone know of any good kid's bank accounts that can help my duaghter learn about saving (and perhaps earn a small amount of interest with a small deposit?)

Thanks!

What was the response to this query at YOUR bank/credit union?

If you qualify for silver state schools credit union their jr savings account is currently paying 5% for the first $500, you must be enrolled in getting their statements online. The branch we go to has a coin machine for cashing in their change but it now has a fee but my 7yr old and 4yr old love to save that way and they gave them each piggy bank for opening the account. I don't know of any other places in vegas offering this high of a rate at this time for a savings account.

Banks are boring. Deposit the money at the casino cage in your favorite casino, and tell your kid the money is waiting there for them as soon as they can get a fake ID.

bad idea. Given the current economic climate...the casino may not be there by the time they're old enough.

Wells Fargo offers a good child savings acct. Each time they make a deposit they stamp the reciept and the child can save those and redeem them for prizes. Also at 13 years old they offer a teen checking account and debit card, but you set the limit on the debit card to how much the child can spend per day. It is a great way to teach kids about banking.
