Moving to Vegas in Nov. from Cali
Hi, everyone
I currently live in OC, california and I'm about to move to Las Vegas to go to school there, just transferred to UNLV. I'm supposed to go check out some apartments on monday the 9th but the thing is that the ones I've picked out from craiglist seems to be in the not so nice neighborhood according to some threads I read on here.
I'm looking for an one bed apartment and the ones I'm considering are
1.Rancho del rey
2701 n decatur blvd.
Las vegas 89108
2.Entrata di paradiso
2701 n rainbow rd
las vegas 89108
3.Oasis Spring
451 n. nellis blvd
las vegas 89110
the rent seems reasonable they are around 550-600 but are those areas good to live?
if not where should I be looking into?
Thanks in advance guys.

The only one of the three livable from a neighborhood crime statistic is Entrada de Paradiso. The other two are an order of magnitude rougher.
Stay west of Rainbow and south of Charleston if you want a safe neighborhood.

My suggestion is the Oasis apartments, probably located in one of the red areas on the zip map, but the complex is surrounded by empty fields and on a dead end road. 685 for a 2 bedroom. Right off the strip, handy to bus lines. The airport is right next door, but if you're going to live in apartments, you're going to live with noise anyway.

That is not the problem. It is Nellis and Charleston and the complex itself.
It is literally an order of magnitude worse than the Rainbow complex on crime within a quarter mile.

I should have included the street address--this Oasis complex is across from Mandalay Bay. I couldn't find it in the phone book the other day and unless you work for an aviation company you'll never just drive by it.

I heard and read some things about Rancho Del Rey.Most was not good things.
Entrata di Paradiso is in a pretty good part of the valley, apartments seem nice.A little distant from UNLV though
As for Oasis Springs?I'm not sure.I would go with EDP first. But if you can check all three of them out.

5711 w tropicana ave
Las vegas nv 89118
near or in spring valley area also closer to UNLV than the other apartments that I listed before.
and what other things should I worry about living in las vegas? people keep telling me that it's hard to live out there ...

It's about as hard to live in Las Vegas as it is to live in Orange County. Or anywhere else for that matter.
We have more things here though, that could get you in trouble. Gambling, drinking, the party atmosphere.
Once you get past all your wildest Las Vegas dreams and get them out of your system, living here is no different than what you're used to in Orange County.
Good luck with your schooling, keep your nose to the books and you'll do great!
