Harrah's is a despicable company. I used to work for Caesars Entertainment and after Harrah's bought the company, employee morale went down dramatically. I won't bore you with the details but I know first-hand just how Harrah's operates. And it's not good. We've all heard about their illegal remodeling and tampering with fire alarms. That's just the tip of the iceberg.

I cannot wait until Gary Loveman is run out of town. I will be there with a "Don't Come Back" sign.

You pretty much sum up my feelings for Harrah's also after they took over. Some of the policy was silly. The managers had no sense of professional conduct. They never made thier manangers accountable for anything. Things really went for the worst when Apollo started their cash mandate policy for the daily deposits to fund the interest payments on the loans and not leaving enough cash for each property to operate properly.

It looks like there is about 12' of space between the front desk and that bank of Wheel Of Fortune machines. They are also sitting on the marble floor instead of the carpet area and thats what makes them stand out. If the engineers drilled though the tile to run the electrical to the machine stands then there will always be machines in that area. I work at the GN while Fitzgeralds does have a pretty good surveillance crew.

They kept table games open a lot longer than they needed to, which really hurt our toke or tip rate to the dealers. For those not in the business, a card dealer makes minimum wage plus tips. Actually Harrah's paid 4.25 per hour in 1995, which was an absolute joke for a property that was probably pulling a million a day in table games alone, not to mention all the slot machines. Actually, at least on the Tunica property, they wanted to go 100 percent machines, but this is not allowed legally (I don't believe.) There must be some live action games.

Harrah's Tunica never cared about problem or crazy gamblers who would stay there for days on end. We even had a professional golfer, some fatass from Arkansas who was an alcoholic, and gambling addict. Harrah's loved him. There was also another man who would be verbal abusive to the dealers, saying evil and awful things especially to women. He even had the gaul supposedly to tell a preganant woman that he hopes her baby dies after losing a bet. Harrah's didn't care as this bastard was playing something like a grand a hand. I never dealt to the guy as he was in the high limit pit. Then there were the crack slinga's coming in with $1000 dollars in 10 dollar notes to launder at the casino. Of course, they did that everywhere, but Harrahs was a favorite of the inner city lowlifes. We used to make jokes about people trying to play their food stamps on the game. Then there was first of the month when they would have their bling and go down to the casino to **** it all away.

The company's idiotic diversity program, which is basically reverse racism against whites. The making of employees go through all that touchy feely training crap.
Companies like Boeing are making inferior products and services because of "diversity programs". Harrah's was very big about "buzzwords and phrases" like 'check for understanding' and other things. Their 100% customer satisfaction crap, dealing with ghetto rats with free offers and favorable comps. Harrah's even gave away Cadillacs in a promotion for awhile. Another (retared) promotion that the company did was advertise $5 dollar matchplays in the newspaper. It was basically a coupon. The player could use the coupon and play at least $5. If they won, they won $10. Problem with the promotion was that it was supposed to be used one time, however the customers, especially the ghetto people would have several of them and jump from game to game with the overworked supervisors chasing them around the pit and trying to keep tabs on who was usuing more than one match play. Hilarity ensues.

Horribly small toke rates, on the line of $3 to $4 bucks an hour were common, especially when other properties such as Horseshoe had toke rates upwards to $12 to 15 bucks an hour. This is because Harrah's would basically run off any good action and people who had real money to spend. They all went to Horseshoe (which is now unfortunately ran by Harrah's). I worked at Horseshoe for about a year. That place kicked ass, especially when Mr. Binion came in the club. Binion would automatically order the closing of dead tables upon passing through. He was a jerk and didn't care about us, but indirectly was really helping us with hours. Now, I'm sure Harrah's is keeping dead games going 24/7, and if the dealer oesn't like it, good luck finding another job.

One night I was on a Swing shift dice crew in a three crap table pit. We were forced to work overtime serving three to four "inner city" people who were just making field bets and little else. I had more money in my pocket than what was on the table. The Graveyard shift was already on duty and two of out crew had a cold, were tired as dogs and wanted to go home. I was so pissed off at the situation that I went off on the shift manager. She cursed me back but didn't lose my job. Probably because no one else from any other joint wanted to work there.

Harrah's was involved with the "United Way" heavily and more or less coersed their employees to contribute. The United Way is an organization of crooks and shakedown artists who live off the forced contributions of employees, while giving a pittance to charity groups, some of whom like Planned Parenthood I would never give a cent to. Harrah's lived off this publicity and would give the UW a big check in front of the cameras with everyone all smiles, Harrah's being seen as not a place that takes the rent and food money from suckers and saps, but as a corporate friend of the community. The problem was that the company did not want to pay all that money themselves and fully expected the staff to "contribute". I refused. Unfortunately for me, I was hassled, begged and pleaded to by my supervisor, a young black guy about my age. He begged because his bosses were making him do that. 100% compliance. You know, working at one company, any company is hard enough without having to work for gratis for a group of shiesters.

See, it wasn't enough for a rich corporation like Harrah's to give money themselves, they leeched off of minimum wage employees. Not giving to the United Way was seen as not being a Team Member. Not being a team member means no advancement in the company.

This property was such a nickel and dime operation that "sweated the money" profusely. The Harrah's moved into a larger property, which was previously owned by another operator who went belly up (called the Southern Belle). Inside the casino was a poker room and the company decided to keep it. Since there weren't any local, qualified poker dealers back in the early 90's, Harrah's shipped a bunch of them in from their properties in Nevada. What happened was the managers did not want the poker room and did whatever they could to sabotage it so that the company would eventually remove it to be replaced by slot machines. Like I said, what was bad about this was that people from far off Nevada were offered jobs just to get screwed out of them. Those poker dealers were out of a job, almost 2,000 miles away from home with their last job being in a dead poker room, which will seem to be their fault instead of the company. Harrah's pulled that garbage a lot. There was a dealer, an older man close to 50 who left Tunica to work in the Harrah's in New Orleans, which turned into a colossal bumblefark. When that job went belly up, he was out on the street. He came back to Tunica and fortunately for him found another job at another casino.

Their East German secret police state style survaillance of its employees, with supervisors writing secret memos that were put in the employee file. I only learned of these in my last day of work. Another thing about this property was that there was no way to give a two weeks notice. Giving notice would cause the company to immediately terminate employment. So I worked there until the very last day. What was funny was that it was the same day as my yearly evaluation, and the supervisor made me sit through it (to be fair, he was a nice guy and he put a lot of effort into it.) During this evaluation, I discovered that the company directed the supervisors to write secret notes on their employees. Later, when I was seeking work at another property, they called Harrah's and was informed by them (about 3 years later) that I quit without notice (it was either quit without notice or lose pay.).

Promotion was not done by merit, but rather who was the most popular. Dual rate positions came up, with the management directing the floor supervisors to choose who they personally liked. So friends got promoted. Nepotism was rife in the company also with many family members in different departments.

The break room food was inedible. Remember that show M*A*S*H, when they would ***** and moan about how s**t the food was? Well, that was Harrah's Tunica. I even got into an argument with someone serving that slop when I asked them what something was and the person had no idea. "You have no idea? WTF?" Just another example of them not caring about the employees and even holding them in distain.

Harrah's wasn't all bad. Their PTO vacation was really the tops. Harrah's also had good insurance, much better than Horseshoe's, whose policies came from a cracker jack box. But working there was a real drag. My funniest story from there (besides passing gas in the pit from time to time.) was one night I was dealing 21 to this guy and was dumping money to him, with no gratuitiy whatsoever. I got so mad that when I was tapped off the game on break, I told a junior supervisor that when I came back, I was going to kick his f'ing ass. 20 minutes later, upon my return, the senior supervisor, a wisened old broad named Mrs. C called me over. She asked me, "I heard that you want to kick that customer's ass. Is that true?" I told her nervously that I did expecting to be written up, but Mrs. C said, "Well, I wish you would start kicking his ass now, he's into us for over a thousand!" (The woman was later fired and arrested for some scheme to defraud Harrah's after I left.)

In short, Harrah's sucks, Harrah's sucks, Harrah's sucks.................

Boogie, i enjoyed reading every single word you posted. You hit the issue square on the head..HARRAH's SUCKS!!

I have the unfortunate pleasure of working for them (at least for a few more months at their New Orleans installation for over a year now and ive seen how they operate. The latest rectal assault on the lowly proletariats came in the form of what they so cheerfully refer to "beverage on demand" Just to sum it up, what b.o.d does (or is supposed to do) is streamline the time it takes for servers to get to the guests and serve them drinks, by allowing the customers to order the drinks right from the machines, which then send the order electronically to the relevant bar, upon which the bartender immediately makes the drink and which the server takes to the customer, in under 7 minutes.

Sounds ideal doesnt it? Problem is, its killing the waitresses' (fudge political correctness) potential earnings because they cant establish the camaraderie necessary in order to generate better tips, then and in the future.

Every single person ive talked to, from the servers/waitresses to the bartenders hate bod worse than aids, and that's saying a lot! Furthermore the system they use is buggy (as is the case with any new operating system) and routinely lags when it comes to actually printing out the order, forcing the waitresses to have to make a mad dash for the guest as if the business end of the whip was singing at their backs.

This is just one of the many gripes i have with Harrahs' (fortunately that piece of crap bod doesnt affect me) the others have to do with a great many things you mentioned, like the nepotism and the fact that these supervisors have the combined iq of a pickle jar. An expired pickle jar.

Boogie, you are more than welcome to share any further gripes about harrass...i would truly enjoy reading them.

This guy is from my neck of the woods and all I can say is that there had to have been a few lucid moments in the time it takes to spend 100,000,000.

What in the world has happened to personal responsibilty? No one forced this man into a casino. He made a choice to move from Wynn's to Harrah's. He could have left at that time...

No one is forced to walk in to a casino or to work there. No one is forced to take a free drink. It's all about CHOICE. And CHOICE is a God given right. It's what you do with that CHOICE that determines who we are.
