I have found a house to purchase in North Las Vegas. It is on Capitol Reef Ave., just north of Cheyenne and to the west of Martin L. King Blvd. It is in a gated community. I am not rich. I am retired and looking to purchase a little home for under $100,000.

The home I am looking at sold for over $250,000. about 4 years ago. The streets look nice, and the home is in great shape.

Is this area an okay area, or really bad???? I have been told to stay above Cheyenne and to the west of the 15. Is there shopping close to this area???? At this time, I am ill and not able to make the trip to see the house in person. I will be doing this in the future, so I need to hear from someone who is in the area now.

Any help would be much appreciated!!!!!!! Please don't tell me to get a higher costing house, because I can't. I have to live somewhere, and I can't afford to live where I reside now, which is in California. Thanks!

Is this home near Scott Robinson Ave by any chance? If so, it's an ok older area.
If you have some other closer cross streets, that would help much more. If it's really close to MLK, it's a bad sign.

Talking Pink String:Yes!

The house is on Capitol Reef by Oak Bluffs, and the next street over is Scott Robinson. The house is 13 years old. Built in 1996.

Is there good shopping in the area?????? Centrally located???????

Any further info is much appreciated!!!!!

It depends on you. It is a little bit of a high crime area. Also it is a predominately black neighborhood if that means anything. I have a friends that have lived in that area for years.

So I guess that I need to make sure I am more to the north. I have no problem with having different races in my neighborhood, however, I do not want to be in a neighborhood where I am going to be scared, because there is so much crime. I do not want to have to put bars on my windows. This neighborhood looks real nice from the photos...no clunckers parked on the street or in driveways up on blocks, everything is clean, and no tagging....I figured since it was gated, it would be somewhat safer....I don't mind that the house is 13 years old.....it is in really good shape....but I will have my Mom living with me, and I don't want to put her in harms way.....I have looked at some townhouses/condos, but the HOA are so high, that it takes away from what I can afford to offer for the house.....I only have so much to spend a month....

I am going to disagree with Buzz a little. The area has a significant black population but is even more hispanic. Those gated tracts are OK inside but you need some care on the arterials going and coming.
