Hi folks,

I currently live in Los Angeles and I am heading up to las vegas to start my own business (non Gambling), I am able to spend 900-1000 a month to rent a place. I want you folks to please advise me on a nice , safe, community that is maybe 10-30 mins way from the strip. I visit vegas maybe once to twice a year and Im nervous about making vegas my new home.

The perks:
Cheap rent and great business opportunity

The Negative:
Heat ( insane in summer), Cold (very cold in winter)

I am looking at craigslist.org but I dont know what neighborhoods are good and what is bad, I have heard of summerlin and green valley, can someone please explain how much 1,000 would get me for a rental in thos eplaces and how far away these locations are from the strip.

bless you all

1000 should get you in good convenient areas like the South Strip or the South West, we are only renting for 900 on the South Strip for a 1000 square foot house with pool and 2 car garage...Green Valley is about 15 minutes away and I believe Summerlin could be 20-45, depending on the village...

where are these locations and how far are they from the casinos and hotels?
do any of these areas have a gated community /security center?

thanks

I plan to drive up to vegas next weekend and want to get situated as soon as possible and shall be looking to rent an apartment.

"...is the south strip located on the strip where all the hotels and casinos are?"

Yes.

Mandalay Bay is the extreme southern end of the Strip as far as hotels go.

Can't answer your other questions.

Good luck in your venture.

No, South Strip is south of the Mandalay Bay on Las Vegas Boulevard S, which has some gated communities, timeshares, and regular (non-gaming) hotels. They area about 4-8 miles south of the Strip. There are many apartments as well, and there is currently one mall open, 1 mall under construction, and 1 mall in the planning stage....

A good portion of the Vegas Valley is less than 30 minutes from the strip- you could go pretty far out to the east or west, and even up into Summerlin or down toward Green Valley and still hit the strip in 30 minutes in most cases. You first need to define "affordable" before you'll get any decent info.
