Hello everbody, me and a few friends are going to Vegas in late March and would like to stay at a hotel on the strip. We've never stayed in Vegas before or dealt with deposits, so we're a little confused. Looking at hotwire and expedia, it says for most of the hotels on the strip that a deposit is required. We're going to have at least a couple of rooms, so does the hotel charge the deposit by room or group? Basically, can somebody just explain how the whole deposit process works? Also, a couple of people in the group are not 21 yet and I noticed that most of hotels say "guests must be at least 21 years old." Will that be a problem? Thanks for any help!

MOST hotels [upon checking in] require a deposit to cover incidentals. This will vary with the Hotel and is usually in the range of $100.

A credit card imprint [with authorization] is acceptable in lieu of a cash deposit [preferred actually]

There may ALSO be an additional fee upon arrival [a "resort" fee] which is [to my way of thinking] nothing more then 'bait n switch'. This resort fee usually covers things like 1. Internet service 2. Spa admittance etc.....as you can tell I am NOT a fan of resort fees.

Confirm ALL of this PRIOR to making your reservation since Expedia etc may have some pretty tough rules regarding cancellation, change etc....

AT LEAST the person checking into the room must be 21. and NO ONE under 21 may stand in or even pass thru a gaming area unless going from Pt A to Pt B such as from the hotel lobby to a restaurant.

You may NOT be around Gaming Tables, Slot Machines or Bars if you are under 21. Obviously some places are more strict then others...but be forewarned....if ya ain't 21 ya don't belong in a casino in Las Vegas.

Many hotels also require a deposit to reserve the room - usually one nights' rate, which is applied to your bill at the end. Before you book via some on-line service, call the hotel you're interested in directly and see what kind of rate they offer. I've found, especially in Vegas, that you can get a much better rate that way. As mentioned above, be sure you understand the hotels' cancellation policy - many in Vegas require 72 hours notice.

you are nearly always better off booking thru the hotel....i.e. we have a 12:00 noon same day cancel policy but we CHARGE the first night at time of booking....no credit card....no room.....
