Well a week from tomorrow, my wife and I head to Vegas for a few days of condo shopping and I want to get some pictures. We will be staying at the "Red Rock". I would like to get some night pictures of Vegas. Does anyone know of a good spot with a little altitude where I can get some panoramic views of the city?????

Also love to take landscapes. How about some pointers on where to go west of the city to find kewl things to take pictures of??????

Thanks in advance.

Jeez, stand in any spot and turn in any direction. But on top of the Stratosphere, the tallest structure west of the Mississippi, is the best view of the entire valley plus the mountains. Just make sure you have at least one long lens. Las Vegas Strip Hotels, Deals - Stratosphere - Las Vegas Strip Hotel Casinos, Reservations

Top of the Rio there's a really expensive bar with a nice view.

Just a little west of the city is Red Rock Canyon with world class scenery. Rock climbers come from all over the world to climb it's rocks. Red Rock Canyon

Go to Map of Las Vegas, Nevada by MapQuest and find N. Durango, then look for Floyd Lamb Park at Tule Springs. Right now especially it is beautiful with the blossoms, the four ponds, all the water fowl mating...
Floyd Lamb State Park - Google Maps

While you're out there you might as well know about the Ice Age Park too: Tule Springs Ice Age Park

Go west on Lake Mead Bl from U.S. 95 and find Mariner Drive. Hang a right and you'll come to the first of three lakes. Look for the clubhouse on your left at the 1st lake you come to. It's on Regatta Dr. Go just past it and turn in the parking lot. Have lunch there at Marche Bacchus or Garfield's and ask for a table lakeside. Beautiful neighborhood. Wish I'd bought there years ago. Marche Bacchus - French Bistro & Wine Market
Welcome to Garfield's Restaurant!

Then you could also go on up to Kyle Canyon and Mt. Charleston Lodge. Take a coat though, it's muy frio. Mt. Charleston Lodge

Post yourself in front of the fountains at Bellagio during the water and light shows...a must see. Then go inside for the lobby with it's multi-million dollar glass ceiling, and the botanical gardens. Go on past the gardens to the fauncey snack bar with the towering chocolate fountain.

You'll need about three years to take it all in and photograph it.

You can get a really good look at the strip from the top level of the parking garage at Green Vally Ranch.

Top of the parking ramp at Red Rock Station Casino, or if you're quick enough...top of Summerlin Parkway. I agree with Bledsoe too for the top of Green Valley Ranch Casino Parking ramp...we were going to watch the NYE Fireworks from there, but it got too crowded.

Agree with all of the above. Adding Valley of Fire, top of the Palms garage. I have noticed that the Station owned properties really aren't very keen on people taking pictures from the top of their garages. I don't know if it is because I had a camera with a tripod as that seemed to make them nervous. No problem any other place.
