I found a house in the 89121 that I'm interested in, but I'm hesitant about moving to the area. I've been to Vegas 5 times within the last few months checking out all the different areas and I've come to the conclusion that 89121 & 89122 can be pretty bad in some areas and maybe even overall. I've read some other threads on here about the 89121 and most people seems to say it's "okay" but definitely not the best. The house I'm interested in, is near Flamingo & Mountain Vista.
I really like the house, but I don't want to constantly be worrying about being burglarized by some brainwashed, degenerate, immature, gang-banging, irresponsible mod cut: It's definitely not as bad as 89106, but still...I'm concerned.
I love the city of Las Vegas, but maybe Phoenix, AZ would be a better choice, due to the high population of degenerates throughout the city of LV. Too bad I can't afford a house in the 89102, 89103, or southwest...those are my favorite areas.
What do you guys think?
Thanks.

Reason: racial generalizations
I was born and raised in Phoenix living there a total of 30 years. If you think you are going to escape crime there, forget it. I was carjacked with a knife to my throat in 1993. I have had a total of 4 cars stolen in Phoenix. A good friend of mine had his girlfriend raped and murdered there. I am not saying Phoenix is a ghetto or anything, but it is no safer than Vegas whatsoever.

Huh...that seems odd. Where were you living in Phoenix? I've never been there, but I would have never guessed it could have been as overall bad as Vegas (in terms of crime).
And BTW, how the hell did you manage to get you car stolen 4 times? Didn't you learn to put some sort of steering-wheel-lock on your car after the first time? Or even the second time? Whatever, it doesn't matter...let's just keep on the subject. 89121.
And at least in Vegas, you can get a permit to carry a gun around. I wouldn't really want to live in an area where I feel the need to be "strapped" every time I go grocery shopping though. mod cut:
Thanks for the input, regardless.

One of the cars was carjacked, the others while parked. Regardless, you should not assume things about a place that you have never been too. I will tell you this, there are areas in South Phoenix that are worse than ANY area in Vegas.
Ok, now as far as 89121.... I used to live in the Devonshire apartments off of Nellis and Vegas Valley a little over 3 years ago. I never had any issues with crime, but there was no doubt the area was bad. I personally would not purchase property there myself.

Alright thanks, for the input Las Vegas Drunk. You seem to have a pretty good knowledge on the area and you've lived in bad areas before so I'll have to believe you. I'm still undecided though.
There are lots of safe areas in Vegas, and with home prices and rents the way they are now, I don't think it should be too hard finding a place.
Definitely stay out of the North East and try to find something around the I-215 ring. You mentioned the Southwest. I live in Mountain's Edge and it's very safe, you can walk around here at night by yourself and we have friendly private armed security that drive around too. In my opinion, a great thing about the Southwest is that it's literally pretty much as far away from the North East as possible.
Sorry to sound like I'm trying to sell my area, but it's the area I know best.
*edited to say "around the I-215 ring" instead of "outside the I-215 ring" as you can find lots of good areas in the I-215 ring as well.
Danj could you better define what you mean by "215 ring." If you include everything out to 215 on the west edge (I mean like out by Red Rock), you're including almost all of Vegas.
Not to be a naysayer here or anything, but you keep throwing out about not moving to/living where certain races of degenerates live. You did cover by adding more races to that statement, but honestly, there are no certain neighborhoods that are profoundly white, black, hispanic, asian, etc. Las Vegas is a huge melting pot and there is a mix of different races and classes in all neighborhoods. You're not going to be living on a "white" street, or a "latin" street/neighborhood, so try to be more open minded about that. Especially since the prices of homes in the valley decreased significantly, it became possible for people to move from high crime areas to safer areas with their families.
If crime is what you're worried about most, then definitely stay away from the Northeast and certain areas within 1-2 miles of the Strip on all sides, N/S/W/E.
Flamingo and Mountain Vista is an older neighborhood from what I've noticed driving by. My friends live in 89122 near Stallion Mountain golf course and their neighborhood is safe, nothing I've seen or heard all the times I've visited there. Also take a look around Sunset Station, 89015, 89014, 89012, 89011.
You can live in everyone perceives as the safest, most exclusive community, yet there will still be car thefts, break-ins, etc. McDonald's Ranch had a home intrusion while the residents were living there, according to my realtor, and they were confronted at gunpoint. So it doesn't matter where you live, or who lives near you, there is crime everywhere.

Yes, you are right, there are lots of good areas in the 215 ring as well, especially in the West. It's just a general guideline.

It sounds like you answered your own question. That area crashed and burned about 20 years ago.
