You have to go where opportunity presents itself Aqua and if you've got a family that is taking care of you, then that's where you have to go!

Who knows, 2 years is a long time from now, things change. And maybe, a drastic move to a different area will be the best thing that ever happened to you!

Wow, you're just full of happy thoughts, aren't you? I usually find that it's the person who is miserable, rather than the city. For instance, there are plenty of miserable people in Las Vegas who blame the city for their problems. But they're wrong, too.

To the OP, pay no attention to the drunk behind the curtain. The DFW metroplex, is a great place to live. I've lived in various parts of the US, and I've been traveling for a living for the past 28 years. So I've seen a lot of this country first hand, and I think I can fairly evaluate the DFW area. It would be hard for me to think of a better large metroplex area in which to raise a family. The suburbs are great, and not too far removed from the downtown areas. Fort Worth is family friendly, has good museums, botanical gardens, lots of parks, a wonderful zoo, and a fun, clean downtown area. People are very friendly. Generally, the schools are quite good, but as with any city, you can find some bad areas if you look for them. Property taxes are high, and that is the one thing I really don't like about the DFW area. Yeah, this part of Texas is flat, and looks a little bland, at first, but not in a bad way. Now, I love Las Vegas, and am seriously considering it for retirement, for a variety of reasons. But Texas has a lot to offer, and just like anywhere else, if you look for the good, you will find it.

As far a Cleveland goes, I spent some time there back in the 1990's, and my impression of the city is exactly as MadManofBethesda described it. In fact, except for the cold weather, I kind of liked Cleveland.

You know, not to argue or anything but everyone is entitled to their opinion here and LVD was just voicing his...he didn't bash anybody, he didn't harrass anyone, he didn't invoke an argument. This forum is all about Las Vegas and if anyone wants to talk about how wonderful Texas is they have the free will to go on that forum, right?

Honestly, if I HAD to leave Las Vegas for Texas (or anywhere else for that matter), I'd feel the same way as Jackie and LVD!

rotflmao......I'm laughing so hard it hurts.. And the Ritz is downtown which is like a deserted island at night.... Unless the Cavs are playing, there is NOTHING.

The problem, if it's a problem, is living here makes you jaded. But all you have to do is leave this town for ten minutes and you see what others are missing, and you can't wait to get back here. It is a fact, and always has been, that the largest percentage of people that leave las vegas will eventually return. Usually within six months or so.

The only other places i've lived, or even visited, that was a reasonable substitute for las vegas has been reno, and albuquerque.

You can't understand that until you've lived here for maybe a year or two. It used to only take about six months to get you hooked on las vegas. Now it might take a little longer because it has grown so much.

As far as cleveland ...there is no comparison with any city east of the rocky mountains with any city west of them for quality of life. I have a friend that is a retired cleveland police officer. His stories assure me i wouldn't want to even visit cleveland, let alone live there. Closest i've come is akron, but was born and raised, and lived in the bordering state of wv until i moved here. I have relatives all over ohio, and i spent summers in jackson with grandma. The -50º weather nine months of the year would be bad enough in cleveland, even if it wasn't one of the highest crime cities there is.
amen! Well said.

I recently had a job interview there and am really hoping it goes through

I wanna live in Vegas so badly I can almost taste it
Want to rent my house?

If fellow Americans don't have any idea that Las vegas is a normal city, imagine what my fellow jordanians are gonna think when I finally tell them I'm moving there ( haven't told my clan over here yet!!), I bet they will think I'll be living in a casino, while my husband fixed slot machines and my kids sat at the black jack table...doing homework!! and I wouldn't blame them cause all they know of las vegas is the hyped-up hollywood version, Although I had no idea what the city of Las vegas was like, a few searches on the net lead me to believe it's very normal, or maybe a notch better than normal, so it's very easy not to get it confused with an 'ocean 11' kinda thing.
Now convincing people here that I'm going to a 'normal city' might take some effort, but having to convince americans is a little lame!!
I knew (a little) better when I was contemplating taking a job here (I'd been to training classes out in the city away from the casinos), but after I did my research on the place, we got really excited about living here. As I said, it's actually not a bad place for families at all (except the school system... I'd change that if I could, but that's the only "bad" part, IMHO).

Most out-of-towners don't see the "normal" part of the city; they see the airport, the Strip, and Downtown (and the no-so-nice areas immediately around them) - I understand why they get the impression they do.

The only thing that shocks my friends is the fact that I have never, not once, gambled a dime in Las Vegas, even though there's video poker machines everywhere you go. Well, that, and the fact that prostitution is, in fact, illegal here.

That's exactly what I seem to be finding out, and what many people who I trust have told me. IF I have to leave LV, and can't go home to Kansas City, then DFW - especially the Ft. Worth side - is a great choice, both for standard of living, schools, stuff to do culturally, and frankly, the economy is so much better (especially for my line of work). I have moved four times in six years; maybe I can settle!

I know about the taxes; I will be renting until I can sell my house in Las Vegas, which I think will end up taking me at least two but up to five years.

Oh, I don't have any special problem with Texas... I just... like Las Vegas. A lot. If I can't live in my hometown, LV is where I'd like to live, but... it's just not to be.

THIS.

I can tell you I'd never have considered LV until I got a job here. I was surprised at how much I liked it. Perhaps Aqua will find it the same in Oregon.

and last but not least... Do you know the 4 seasons of Cleveland? Summer, Almost Winter, Winter, and Still Winter....

You really need to do some research, it has changed dramatically for the worse. Crime (murders) were up alot last year, businesses closing, factories closing.. etc..

A lot of Cleveland relies on hope. I will agree that Cleveland is not Detroit, yet.... but throw in the corruption, crime, and deterioration... and its getting darn close.

Wow! You've done quite a bit of moving Jackie! Best of luck with your relocation and new job!
