May be considering newer construction to resale and I did not see any previous threads on this topic in LV. I currently am close to an area here in Virginia that has many suits due to this toxic stuff. Should part of my check off list to the builder be a concern for this junk...not that they would confess. Also any ideas how to test for it? Concerned that with the economy in the tank some builders may use less than acceptable building standards and materials. In closing I realize that it is buyer beware, would an inspector prior to closing be able to detect this stuff and other maladies? Thanks..

Yes...take out the recessed medicine cabinet in the bathroom to expose the back of the drywall from the adjoining room. If you see something like "You will receive much happiness in your life" or "Lucky Six #'s: 15 2 5 56 31 6"...there's a good chance you can guess where it came from.

This is another of those things of unknown outcome.

First off I don't think there was much of it in Nevada. Second not all Chinese drywall has the problem.

Third the Nevada climate is such that it may not be a problem. It appears that high humidity may be a required ingredient for having a problem...which is generally not present in Las Vegas.

Practically the only way it is going to be detected is by some of the side effects...attacks on copper pipes and wires for example.

I frankly doubt it will be picked up on an inspection unless the copper damage is present.

I would expect one of the mold guys around town to work up an inspection for it...but have not heard of it yet.

Good point... but we all know what Kitec is...and how to identify it.

A fun conjecture though. A small kitec leak setting off the chinese drywall? Who do you sue first?
