Hyde Park MS magnet program

my child is in! Praise God and the random luck of the lottery selection process.
Can anyone tell me more about this than I can read on the CCSD site and greatschools?
I know its in a "not so great" part of town.
Uniforms? Is the dress code the same as the "standard attire" dress code?
Thanks!

Congrats, that is the best program in Clark County. We tried and my son was not selected. He is in an "accelerated" program at another middle school, which can not even come close to Hyde Park's program.

Thank you. I was pretty shocked. Its the one he wanted - there was one (Bridger - got alternate pool for that) closer to where we will be living that would amount to a lot less time on the bus; I thought that would be better just because of the logistics - but this program sounds really good. I have warned him that he will be working very hard and be very busy with schoolwork.
The lottery process is nervewracking and while I get why they do it, it also makes me wonder if some of the schools should raise their admission/selection standards to reduce the number in the lottery. We have a charter HS near here that is really popular but by popular I mean there are 120 applicants for 65 open spots in the freshman class - 35 slots are already taken by siblings of students in the HS. It is my understanding the odds are much worse in CCSD to get into a magnet.

Congratulations! My son got in as well and I'm in the same boat trying to gather as much information as I can.

Did you go to the pre-registration session? It helped me to meet the staff, etc... as we did not get to go to an information session prior to applying. It seems like a nice group of kids.
I signed him up for the prep week in August - we are brand new - not even in Vegas yet - and I am hoping it will help ease him in.
I completely forgot to ask them about dress code. I need to do that before we pack so I can make sure I have enough school clothes in our luggage in case school starts before we can unpack.
Do you know if they go by "standard attire" rules? And are shorts allowed at all or do they have to wear jeans/pants (even if its 100 degrees out). We are starting to hit shorts weather here but I don't want to pack away the jeans if he will need them.

No, unfortunately we didn't get to go to the pre-registration session but we did go to the information session prior to applying. We just had the placement test administered this week and we filled out all the paperwork then.
As far as I know, the school does not have a dress code. I heard the parent orientation isn't till after early into the start of the next school year, but we will be sending my son to the Summer Academy as well so he can get his Middle School toes wet at least.
Have you worked out the transportation and after-school arrangements yet? Elementary was easy with Safekey. We still have a lot of working out to do from our end as we live in the NW Centennial area and are not really too familiar with the area of town that Hyde Park is in.

We are using the school bus. I have room for only one more kid in my van so carpooling would not really be worth it for us. I think we will be about 25 min from the school by car.

Congrats !!
My daughter went to the IB Magnet program at Roy Martin. She learned alot and the program suited her. The only Negative I could find is riding the bus and getting up so early. For her eighth grade year, she went to Virtual academy and got straight a's. She is now going to Green Valley High School. The magnet program is excellent.

That (Martin) was the other one he was selected for but it was no contest - he really wanted Hyde Park. NVVA was going to be one of my options if I could not find a suitable middle school.
What are the magnet HS that kids flow up into from magnet MS like the IB program and the Academy at Hyde Park? If we will still be living where we plan to live, I am not touching our zoned HS (Mojave) with a 30 foot pole. I have not heard anything good about it.
