I work the night shift near the Community College near Cheyenne/Pecos, and every morning at 5am or so I hear roosters crowing. Goes on until I leave work at 6am.

Where else in the Valley are you awakened by Roosters? Certainly not HOA communities, I'm guessing.

I used to fall asleep most nights in Las Vegas to the sound of gunfire. I'd take roosters over that any day We have a lot of them here in Hawaii. Maybe you now have some avid backyard chicken enthusiasts which are getting more and more common around the country?

I have a friend that woke up every morning to the sound of Siegfried and Roy's lions roaring. The roosters that you hear in that neighborhood are probably of the fighting kind.

Get out in your backyard early Buzz...you have a set of rooster immediately to your north. The dog and his buddy across the diagonal discuss them every morning. I believe it is the house facing craig between Tomsik and Cimarron.

Some more around Florine in the cul de sacs.

Ten years ago when the cheetah escaped from the corner house at Florine and Tomsik he hid for a couple of days in my front shrubs. He left pieces of three fancy chickens there...so the ole cheetah knew where the good stuff was.

Right behind me. Several horse ranches that hold roosters, they are going to town when I'm out the door between 5:30-6:00 a.m.

A cheetah escaped from what we call the "party house"? Is it there now? I haven't heard any roosters, but I have heard "train whistles"??? What's that all about?

I'm sure the NE side of town around Christy Ln up to Sunrise Mountain you hear roosters. What about the horse properties around S. Durango/Blue Diamond area? I would love to hear those roosters or see horses etc.. I grew up having those though.

The Cheetahs left about 13 years ago...1997...I would have said it was the early 2000s but I checked and it was earlier than that. The cheetahs however were still around the NW and are the source of all sorts of exotic animal discussions at the county. The owners are a really interesting couple of tough guys...she tougher than he...and have fought the county to a halt trying to get the cheetahs under control. At one point they were claiming they were exotic house cats...true in a way...but the male does weigh at least 50 lbs.

One or the other got free twice during the 90s. The time we lived here the neighborhood locked down all the smaller pets and little children. While no front claws that dude had a mouth at least six inches wide. I think he was actually pretty domesticated but he had no trouble finding chickens to eat and small children might have also tempted him.
