I was wondering when this thread would rear its ugly face.

I hate NV Energy and rather be uncomfortable than give them any more money than I have to. I have been dealing with the heat as long as possible.

Anyone else?

Currently 85f inside and no plans to turn on the AC until July. Swamp coolers will get me by until then.

When it get's hot, the poor people go to the Mall and library for free AC.

78 inside, peaked at 80 yesterday. Last night it wasn't cool enough to open the Windows, so I ran the AC for the first time to get it down to 75 before I slept.

And the smart people acclimate themselves to their environment. I'm absolutely comfortable at 85f, and I can keep it there all summer long for between $40 and $100 per month. Really depends how many humid days we get.

But if you have some burning desire to keep NVEnergy flush with cash, that's your prerogative. We take the extra few thousand that we save on electricity every year and take an extra week's vacation.

If you're on Time of Use rate, then expensive days don't kick in until June 1.

I'm on super-cheap EV rate (4c/kwh) so I'm cranking that A/C until May 31, 11:59pm.

Then I'll be moving into the Centennial Library

I had to use my AC for a nano second yesterday. Hate using energy, on that note; why do my neighbors keep their porch lights on all day and night? Are they expecting company? Do they think it protects them? I think it lights up the place so people can see to break in. Both sides of my home have well lit houses... crazy.

Our house is well lit at night -- with LED and CFL bulbs where appropriate. It gives potential intruders less places to hide.

I have the bulbs timed with one of these: Honeywell Econoswitch RPLS740B 7-Day Solar Time Table Programmable Switch for Lights and Motors - Amazon.com

And I have a couple more smart switches in the house so I can set the lights to "random" when I'm on vacation. I highly recommend these switches. They work very well.
