I know that things are not great out there right now, so this may be less probable than normal.

I'm wondering if the type of jobs I'm applying for, mainly warehouse type positions, will generally discount my resume right off the bat when they see I'm currently living in Wisconsin.

This goes for getting an apartment as well. If my chances at landing these types of jobs from afar are too slim, I may have to change my current approach, build up some living expense funds, and get my feet on the pavement out there.

Any thoughts these two subjects would be greatly appreciated.

I get a lot of resumes from people out of town. Initially, I would contact them and go through the motions. Something would always come up where the person didnt make it out, plans changed, etc. It's not worth the effort, I simply disregard a resume from an out of towner.

It won't hurt to send in your resume. Most if not all resorts on the Strip accept them together with the online application. I see nothing wrong with sending it in especially if you have an extensive background on your field. Go for it if you really want to move here and goodluck!

This is exactly what I was thinking. HR people probably get a lot of people from out of town wanting to come to Vegas and then they end up flaking out. Kind of hurts someone like me who crosses their t's and dots their i's and plans their budgets, etc. etc.

All I can do is start firing out apps and resumes and hope someone reads past the contact info. Hopefully soon I'll find something that will justify the move and I'll be moving to my favorite city in world.

I am not passing along this information to discourage but to enlighten you so you are fully aware of what is happening out here. If you come to Vegas have 6 months to a year saved up in case the job you were hired for suddenly goes away which happens more frequently then you would think. Right now isn't the time to uproot and move especially since it sounds like you really don't have the money to move much less sustain yourself if you become unemployed while your here. You need to know this, casino's have limited hiring if hiring at all, recently casino's did hire for employees to work in the pool area's .

Because of another drop in property tax revenues, the final Metropolitan Police Department budget presented Monday 4/26/2010 will cut 69 police and 139 civilian positions to help shave about $37 million from last year's budget. The positions to be cut are currently vacant.

Our county and city governments are trying to balance the budget for 2011 and this looks like one way they are trying to solve our growing budget problems.

Even fire fighters and policeman are losing their jobs out here take note.

I would think most employers are hip to that scam, no?
