Relocating to Vegas... What's the best zip codes?
I'm starting a new job in Vegas on July 9th. We'll be moving from Nebraska, and we're trying to come up with a rental arrangement without knowing much about the area. What are the best zip codes?
It seems from my investigations so far that the better deal is to rent a house rather than an apartment (we have three children), but we do want to stay towards the temporary until we get established out there and decide where we want to be on a longer term basis. Does anyone have any suggestions for short term rentals or temporary housing?
Thanks so much!

zip codes arent good boundaries, because once again there will be good and bad parts of them...why don't you say what you want to be near and we will come up with zip codes for that...

A lot is going to depend on where you'll be working. Since you mentioned already having a job, I'm assuming that job has an address, which would help guide you toward where to look. You don't want to be working in Henderson and living at Ann Rd and 95.

I'll be working on Las Vegas Blvd South, and sometime in the next year my office may move to the strip (new corporate headquarters being built). So I'll need an easy commute to the general strip area. Other than that, I'd like a safe area, moderate to upper income.
Thanks!

Try 89123. East of LV Blvd on the south end of town. Lots of rental potential.

There's some nice housing in the Southern Highlands masterplan area, which is just south of where you are. That might be a good place to start.

South Strip, 89123, South of Windmill/Blue Diamond East or West of Las Vegas Blvd is a good area for your commute
there are plenty of condos and townhomes in the area or even some homes...
Southern Highlands, is a little too far out from anything in my opinion, plus there's only 1-2 ways out at a time and one of the ways is constantly restricted, while the other doesn't even have street lights for most of it...

In the top 25% for crime, higher income and convenient to LVBlvd South are...
89012
89052
89141
89139
89148
89135
89178
89123 is second tier for crime.
If you are willing to spend a little money you can get into any of those.
Love the name. Reminiscient of my doctor. She goes on vacation and spends two weeks camping in New Brunswick.

Go to Green Valley.
And don't make your decision based off the info you will get here. You will get a realtor's opinion (olcapt), a high school students opinion (kid) and the opinion of someone that lived there ten years and didn't think it's a good place to raise kids (me).
Do some research outside of this site. Look up crime index reports, the schools in the area, demographics, etc. All the things that matter to you in a neighborhood. You can listen to what is said here, but realize that everyone sees things differently. I've learned from these boards that 5 people can look at the same house/community/street and all perceive it a different way. One hates it, one loves, etc.
The OPINIONS you will get here are subjective and all different, based on our individual experiences.
My opinion is that if you are going to raise your kids in Vegas go to Green Valley. I've done the research, the best public schools in the valley are there, it's lower in crime, etc.
Southern Highlands that was mentioned is nice... but the houses are crazily close together. They crammed them in there like sardines.

Ahh again the dulcet tones of RWF...Go to Green Valley...go to GV ....go to GV...Go to GV... Something a little strident about it isn't there.
GV by the way is a very nice place. One of twenty or thirty a general newby to Las Vegas should think about...and one of ten or twelve one interested in the south LV Blvd should consider. So by all means consider GV among all the other possiblities.
Hey RWF...how may years was it you lived in Green Valley?
