I was back in Las Vegas last week for the dedication of Kellar Elementary.

My friend loaned me her car to drive and at first I was apprehensive because it was a manual transmission. I got out there to practice and my nerves really eased because there seemed to be a lot fewer cars on the road than when I moved away. I really felt like the volume of traffic has really dropped.

Was my perception correct?

Yes I think you are correct. It seems to have eased up considerably in my area as well. During the boom years, from 2003 to 2007, there was much more traffic all over the valley. There used to be 6,000 or so coming in every month. Now many have left. The new ones come trickling in slower now.

Aside from people moving out, infrastructure improved as well. Widening of Interstate 15 and 95 freeway plus the construction of the 215 beltway improved driving time around the valley.

I actually think the traffic has been picking up again lately.
Last year was really really slow.

I noticed it last year. It takes me a lot less time to get to the airport on the 215 now compared to a few years ago. Also, I see a lot fewer Hummer H2s and Escalades on the road. Guess most of those people can't afford their lease payments anymore.

20% effective unemployment rate might have something to do with it.
