A good link. Note that the site is contaminated and that the contamination is contained on the site and is expected to be for thousands of years.

Note also never to trust the feds. They like using NV as a garbage pit.

The numbers are likely over stated. For instance LV draws close to 500K AF from the Colorado. That would say the aquifers quoted are about a ten year supply. The correct metric would be the perrennial yield of the aquifer which will be a tiny fraction of the trillion quoted. Note that pricing of water is very much in the eyes of the beholder. The same water priced for CA agriculture is worth less than 5% of the price quoted.

The one worth a battle over might be to force the feds to treat or free up one way or another the needs of Nye county. Pahrump and vicintiy are in a death spiral. Might be a good effort to get the feds to fix the problem. I am not sure however that those aquifers will in fact yield enough to even fix the Pahrump problem.

Unfortunately for us Nevadans and future Nevadans a potential water source for us near the valley is contaminated and even in areas not affected, water cannot be drawn for fear contamination might just spread even more. Our officials better get to work for compensation on behalf of all the residents in Nevada especially Southern Nevada. Over at Ash Springs not far from Las Vegas, they have found traces of chemicals underground related in some way to the Nevada Test Site.

Not saying it doesn't worry me, but if it will take 6,000 years to reach Beatty, doesn't that mean it will take a million years to reach Las Vegas?

I think what olecapt is saying is that it isn't in the Las Vegas Valley aquifer, and probably never will be. Of course it is under the Test Site, and as they pointed out, if water is taken from an aquifer near there, it may move to replace the water removed. It all shows how stupid and short sighted the government can be ...governments always being made up of a small group of idiots that couldn't manage a lemonade stand. But even if Las Vegas is never affected, there are other communities and ranches in Nevada, even though it's only a handful of people out there in the outback.

I toured the Nevada Test Site a couple of years ago, and I was surprised at the wildlife running around out there among the "device" (they never use the word "bomb") craters.

Read for content. That is mostly a rehash of the report hiker put up.

And note the last one...if you actually read the real report says that in perhaps 15,000 years those pupfish are in trouble.

Again the same story. The feds screwed up big time within the test site. Fact. The worse news is they want to have nothing to do with fixing it...hard, no reward and certainly very expensive. And their key defense is that it is doing no harm. With perhaps the exception of blocking certain withdrawals elsewhere that is likely true.

Note that if you corner the feds they will likely simply buy out those who have any possible claim on water in the area. Much cheaper than fixing the problem.

Note that none of this has anything to do with the LV aquifer and that they even project that the radioactive plume will bypass Beatty.

So yes there is a minor problem created by the feds who don't want to fix it...but it is a minor problem and has no impact or effect on Las Vegas.

Hell even the radiation from the test site got SLC not LV.

Nope. Most of it is catch basined and simply evaporates.

anything that gets into the sewer system goes to Mead. But generally we make no attempt to catch rain. There simply is not enough to make it worth while.

That is a different matter. We have specially trained clouds that dump only on Desert Shores.

And your parking lot has been declared an impoundment area for the local area.

Was all this not in the disclosures you got when you bought your place?
