I am well aware of the current unemployment rate in LV (13.8% correct )

And I also know a lot (but not all) jobs require that you be over 21, have a health card, TAM card, Sheriff's card, etc

All the regular posters here know Im 20, and I have retail experience, as well as food service experience about (4 years total experience in both fields combined)

Let's say hypothetically; Considering my age, industries in which I have work experience, and the current state of the economy, if I were to show up in LV tomorrow and at the very least got a health card, and was really persistent (pounding the pavement all day filling out apps and making tons of follow up calls) about how long do you think it would take to land a job with sufficient pay ($8.50 hr+) and more then 30 hours a week?

Could you please tell me what all of those things are that you say you need to have a job in LasVegas? a health card? TAM card? Sheriff's card? and over 21? seriously? or are these things you need to work in the casinos?

Wow, seems like a lot of paperwork, time and energy needed to even start job hunting.

For your situation I'd say try the chain restaurants. They will start you off with crappy shifts part time, but at only a dollar more than minimum wage I think you can make that kind of money in almost any of their jobs except dish washing. Just get a couple of gigs to fill out your schedule. Also if you have a reliable car pizza delivery for 3-4 hours a day is good income ($15/hr). Just make sure you hit up places in the better parts of town for this one.

For all these I don't think you would need the sheriff's card and depending on position you wouldn't need the TAM card right away either.

FWIW.....people are lazy.....[to much work to get a job].... they also apparantely don't want to work...case inpoint....wife interviewed a guy last week...made a job offer [$10 to start working in an inbound call center] contingent upon #1 Drug test #2 Background check.... drug test came back fine...background check took 4 days.... yesterday the guy calls her saying "he needs to go to work NOW and he can't wait around"and he [essentially] demanded that he be put to work immediately.

She said "Thank you for applying" and trashed his "approved" background check..... he was a problem employee waiting to happen.

Do people NOT NEED to work??????

Davie...Fast food places, you'd need a health card for that. One of my kids filled out applications last weekend at the nearby fast food places, all required a health card, none were hiring at the moment but would keep his application on file.

Sign wavers (approx $50.00) a day (but there is a waiting list)

Courtesy clerk in supermarkets

Camp counselor at the YMCA

Sales clerks in stores (not in casinos) that don't have the restriction that you must be over 21...a lot of them do.

People don't realize that even though Las Vegas is Sin City baby, we DO in fact, have a lot of restrictions when it comes to young people.

Even $8.50 is going to be a stretch for you Davie. One of my girlfriends (semi-retired, older lady) just got hired by Pier 1 Imports as a sales clerk (non-cash register) for 15 hours a week...her pay is $8.16 an hour, no benefits.

She wanted some spending money, even though she receives retirement pay and Social Security. She filled the application out back in December, before Christmas and got a call out of the blue last week.

I can't think of anyplace more tough to survive in than Las Vegas when you have no place to stay and no money. It can make you real miserable when you see people enjoying everything LV has to offer, but YOU can't.

DON'T do anything foolish. Stay where you are, Las Vegas will still be here when the time is right for you.

Though I do have to say Im getting discouraged very quickly. I feel like there is NO OPENINGS and no company out there is going to hire me. The last time I was looking for a job it took me 4 months, and that was when the economy was GOOD

You can try the restaurants. If you are good at your job they will work around you. I've been to a few where they just had someone 21+ take the drink order.

Seems standard for around here.

Davie, you can get a telemaketing job inside of a week, but you really need to be here for people to take you seriouslly.
