I've hiked a few different areas around the valley and my favorites are the trails that lead to Colorado River.. Most of them begin right outside of Boulder City.. Henderson is much closer to Boulder City.

The best hiking close by is Mt. Charleston. But not the easy trails near the lodge. You have to man up and go to the top. Take the advanced trails, The others are just warm ups. Although Red Rock is very pleasant hiking when it's not too hot. In summer even Charleston is hot but you can still hike. It's pretty hard to hike the lower elevations in summer. A 4x4 helps to get to the good trails. The NW part of town is closest to Charlie. But be bold and drive to Great Basin, Yosemite, Kings Canyon, Zion, Bryce, Cedar Breaks, Elk Meadows, Mammoth Lakes, Tahoe, Cave Lake, Lamoille Canyon, Jarbidge, and camp or backpack in and spend the night.
