Just thinking....out in the Midwest....seems like PITBULLS are the dog of choice. Constantly reading about small kids getting malled by pitbulls....cities trying to deal with them, etc.

Heard out in Southern California...chiquaquas are all the rage.

Different cities seems to have different 'dog' choices/preferences...how about in Las Vegas?

As far as medium to large dogs go I see more pitbulls and pitbull mixes than anything. These people must own houses because most apartment complexes won't allow pitbulls due to insurance reasons.

If you live near me, a barkless dog is best.

As for chihuahua's, they are small but mighty. Saw it on Beverly Hills chihuahua.

LOL. Noone asked if Pit Bulls were safe dogs to own or not...I think you posted in the wrong thread. That is a whole other subject, which I think is probably largely debated. Most likely there have probably been many of those threads started in the Dog Forum. LOL.

I don't think there is one breed of dog here in Las Vegas that is all the rage..

I've seen just about every breed of dog here in town at one time or another.

Now what was real interesting was 3 weeks ago, at Rainbow Park with some of the little ones for a play date and a gal is there taking her pet Polish Chicken for a walk....

People are the biggest problem. Most of us aren't qualified to own a dog. People don't do their research about a breed before they bring it home. Some dogs don't like kids, but people think they're cute so bring them home to a houseful of kids that the dog will hate. Some dogs shed and some don't. That can make a big difference in a house dog. Some dogs bark a lot. Some not enough. Some dogs, like the chihuahua, will only get close to one member of the family and be nasty to everyone else.

Most people don't understand dogs and don't learn how to deal with a dog. So when the dog is being a dog, the owner punishes it for normal dog behavior, and the dog becomes paranoid.

One thing I've noticed about pit bulls is they go nuts and attack each other when they see another dog across a fence. Lots of dogs do that, but it's because this aspect has been neglected by the owner. They can be trained out of it. If they get out while in that state, they will attack anything and anybody. Being such a large, strong dog, they are dangerous when untrained. Pit bulls don't exactly look like a lovable family dog, and most of the owners don't look so lovable either. Neither one can ever be completely trusted. Maybe both the dog and the owner should be put down.

I think it might be like cars. When you own a certain car you notice that car on the road a lot more. We have mostly had Lhasa Apsos in our family, so we see more Lhasas and Sh*tzus (I can't believe they block the name of a dog). But I do notice a lot of pit bulls and Chihuahuas too. Also Labs, mini dachshunds, Yorkies, and hound dogs. I'd guess Labs are probably the most popular.

Thanks, Cesar. All good points.
