Adriel, your writing touched me deeply. You have a good way with words. And believe me, similar words have been echoed over and over in my own household for the past several years. I agree with much of what you say- it is very convincing from an emotional or humanitarian standpoint. I have known several illegals and admire much about their honesty, cheerfulness, and willingness to work hard. As I said, this is on a personal level. I have been married to an American Indian/ Hispanic lady for 37 years; though her family was in California before the Anglos came, many of the extended family (in-laws) has roots in Mexico- and some were, at one time or another, illegal, decades ago. But the world now is a much more precarious place than it was in the past.
You are young and idealistic- so was I at your age. You love your parents, and you should. My anger at illegal immigration is not directed at the immigrants, but at the rich people who run Mexico and take everything from the poor, so they are forced to leave. Mexico could be a wealthy country, but is run by crooks.
I am also angry at the poilticians here, who should be busy protecting our borders instead of exploiting immigrant labor. You are here now; your destiny and interests lie in the U.S. Uncontrlloed immigration is just as bad for you as it is for anyone else. It isn't a matter of race, it's a matter of law. I'm sure you don't let strangers walk into your home, sit down ,and eat, without your permission- why, because you are selfish? No, because it's your home.
This is a very emotional issue, I know. But to be intellectually honest, you must admit that without some sort of laws or rules, society would be chaos. I am a "nice guy"- I'm honest, cheerful, hardworking, etc. But I cannot wander into the Mission Viejo Country Club without permission and start playing. They have the right to admit me or not; it's their club. I need to ask permission, even if I'm "nicer" than any of them. I can't walk onto a Union jobsite and start collecting their wages; I'm not a union member- -and so on. Families, Businesses, and all groups have the right to their own "territory" or property. So do countries. Mexico has no patience with people who illegally enter its space.
If you are an American, you must realize that we must have some sort of control over who enters here- it's our land, isn't it? I'm not trying to embarrass you, but honestly ask yourself this- would your feelings change (as a Mexican-American) if America was suddenly full of illegal Russians, or Haitians, or Iranians, by the millions? Make sure that your loyalty to your family (normal and fine a quality as that is) isn't confusing your rational view on the illegality of uncontrlled immigration. When your parents came, perhaps there was a place for them- but how many more years can we take in uncontrolled numbers of poor people, no matter how good they may be as individuals?
Just think about it- meanwhile, to you and your family, my best wishes go out. I know you and your parents are good people. This problem is part of a very complex situation coming about as we all enter the 21st century. Please don't look at it any other way.....

I still appreciate the pro-American sentiment no matter what your gender....
Living in Southern California, I am surrounded by reconquista types who don't want to assimilate and who don't consider the U.S. to be their home (unless they can get rid of everyone who is not of "La Raza") and who are simply here to suck whatever they can out of the great American teat.
The issue of illegal immigration has no easy solutions. But it is wrong to begin your life in a new country by flaunting the laws that make that country a sovereign nation.

I have many relatives that still live in Italy. If they tried to come here illegally I would speak loud and clear against it. They would have no more right to come here illegally then I would have trying to enter Italy illegally.

Easy, Easy, EEEEEEEASYYYYYYY boys & girls. You are so fast to pull the trigger without taking a look at the entire picture. You pull the trigger because seeing illegal aliens bother you because, in your opinion, they are, in many ways, below you? I think that's what you're trying to say, however, I'm not so sure. In any case; I'll give you my take on it & see what you think.
I feel I understand your emotional content, however, I am going to point out something to you all & let's see how you all respond to it.
Now pay close attention, if corporate, industrial & GREEDY America would just stop demanding & insisting on getting cheap labor from these people it would all end appropriately. But NOOOOOOOOO!!!!!! You complain for something our very Country started & now they (the illegal aliens) are close enough to rub elbows with you, now it bothers you. WOW, how unpleasant & inconvenient.
I am just as American as you & probably for alot longer then you. But there was a time that Americans themselves (white America) did not see us as Americans. They saw us as rachet spics & beaners, no matter how educated we happened to be. White America labeled us as Mexican-Americans, we just wanted to be Americans but they would not let us. Now you're complaining? Surely you jest!
As a loyal American I'll say something to you all I heard not to long ago: "If the USA ever goes to war against Mexico or any other latin country, give me orders & an AK47 & I'll shoot Julio in the azz. But by that same token I'll also present you with the following: SCREAM IT OUT LOUD TO OUR VERY OWN COUNTRY, THE GOOD OLE U.S. OF A. Stop it with your demands on cheap labor which fuels your GREED. JUST STOP IT MAN. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.
"OH WHAT A WEB WE WEAVE WHEN FIRST WE LEARN TO DECEIVE" Then you want to blame the rest of the world for something we started, please folks, don't.
Therein lies your / our real problem, American GREED. Illegal aliens don't come to the USA just because folks, they come because they are aware that GREEDY Americans are everywhere to be taken advantage of. That's why they're here. At the same time, however, while they are here, they learn to play the system just like any other individual that learns to play the system & guess what; since they are the peolple that they are, that is to say; in more dire need then us, they refine their skills in this area.
Eventually, most of them come to understand that they probably will never get to become citizens so they revert to "spite". "You pretend to pay me, I pretend to work". That is a loaded comment folks.
I say again, for the record, stop American GREED & it's all over. However, if you don't stop it (American GREED that is) don't complain.
Don't think that the rest of the world is not paying attention, because they are. They continue to learn how America deals with the latin world. That to me, as an American, is embarrassing. It should be to you too.
DO THE RIGHT THING, NOW, & IT WILL ALL END. I PROMISE.

life1, I don't think anyone here believes a Mexican is below us, OK maybe the drug dealers but then again we would feel the same about a white drug dealer. First the Mexicans are illegal. They are demanding what they are not entitled to. They claim America belongs to them. They march in our streets screaming names and disrespecting our flag while flying their own. They have no intention of assimilating and demand we learn their language. Yes businesses have created this problem and it is up to us to drive them out.
If they want to come here, apply, follow our laws and stand in line. I want to push for the same immigration laws as Mexico. They have it right!

Illegal aliens bother Americans because they're criminals. Every single one of them. Immigrants on the other hand come here legally and are welcomed with open arms. Big difference.

I'm not sure why it's their obligation to "speak up" about anything--their just living their lives.

I think everyone knows deep down that things in America are slowly going to hell in a handbasket, and it's not primarily because of illegal immigration, although that is a problem. These aliens provide a convenient scapegoat for other frustrations--it's a safety valve for their detractors, to avoid addressing bigger problems. And of course talk radio is helping to egg them on.
