I am a US citizen and there is a possibility that my company may have an opportunity for me to work on a project in Canada this coming July.

The only problem is I was convicted of misdemeanor possession of marijuana (under 4 ounces) in the US 7 years ago in 2005.

Can I still get a Canadian work VISA with this on my record?

Unfortunately I never applied for expungement and the process takes 12 months, otherwise my record would likely be clean...

It's only my opinion but I wouldn't think a misdemeanor is something which would prohibit you from qualifying for a visa. This site might be of help:

This too is only an opinion, but I feel that you are fretting over a non-issue. Unless you are black, with a criminal record (beyond a marijuana possession conviction), or photographed, wearing a turban and sporting a ****-hair beard, I think that you'll come in under the radar. Marc Emory is the patron Saint of Canadian potsmokers, he's brought a great sense of recocnition to to Canada for his reluctance to kowtow to misapplied law and foolish kingly decree. We have no more jobs here in America, we're exporting our skilled workers to Canada. The Canooks will love you, they'll welcome the chance to milk you of your technical skill while placing you in the workforce. If moving small-weight pot is the worst thing that you have done in your life, you might consider running for political office there in Canada! Be cool at the border and the **** test and if your customs inspector gets too close to your stash, remind him that you once went camping with Spuds McKenzie and the McKenzie brothers. Oh, and about marijuana: "It's a weed that flowers in the mind"...
