Dear All

Having gone from j1 to H1b to GC to naturalization i thought I'd be able to figure out this question myself, but I can't so I hope you can offer some guidance.

So I am sponsoring my mums immigration from the UK to the US, and on Jan 9th she got her i130 approved.

What are the next steps? Nothing seems to have happened since the notification on Jan 9th besides receiving an i797 notification to contact an email address (something@state.gov) if she's heard nothing within 30 days. I did this twice but are yet to hear a response.

So what is she likely going to have to do next? How long will it take til she can move over. I assume she'll have to get a photo taken and a green card stamped in her Uk passport. I really don't know.

Thanks for your help

M

Processing is still back logged. I130 approved means the relationship has been established. Can you check her status on-line?

OP, I-130 simply establishes a relationship, that's it. Approved i-130 will be sent to the NVC and they will send it to US Consular section for consular processing. Once it is there, you will receive a letter giving you information on when and how your mom should apply for an immigrant visa. She will make an immigrant visa application, go thru an interview with a consular officer, then will be issued an immigrant visa if she has no inadmissibility issues. Once she has the visa on her passport, she will travel to the U.S. with a visa package which, will be collected from her at entry by customs. Few months later, she will get her permanent resident card. I hope this helps. If you need to check status of her approved I-130, visit national visa center's website (which is State Department, not the USCIS. Once the petition approved by USCIS, it goes to NVC since your mom is currently living overseas.)

The application has been approved. You are still wending your way through the labyrinthine maze that is USCIS. Usually, letters detailing the next steps will be mailed.

Thanks all.

I have just been asked for the affadavit to prove I can financially support her immigration and have posted the forms up to Dartmouth, New Hampshire. I guess I'll sit tight and wait for my mums request for a medical and interview in the US embassy in London. Wonder how long that'll be.

Cheers
