Multinational Families Please? (green card, Europe, nationality, citizenship)

I'm writing a paper about dual nationality and wanted to hear some experiences from multinational families.

1) Basics of your situation (Example: American citizen married to French citizen raising children in Canada born with Canadian citizenship)
2) What have been the benefits of dual citizenship laws for your family?
3) Any difficulties or cons?

My mother Danish naturalized US. My mother legitimized my birth with Denmark before Denmark changed their laws.

My father US born.

No problems assimilating.

I have Danish PP and use it for ease of travel in EU.

1.)I'm a US citizen, my husband is Indian (he came to the US at 27). We have a 2 year old daughter and we have lived in both the United States and India.

2.) Some benefits are yearly trips to India which is a lot of fun, since I'm married to an Indian citizen I can get a PIO card meaning that I'm able to buy property and invest, that's a major advantage because their economy is growing so quickly. Living in India made me a more patient person, I don't need much personal space anymore.

3.) Some difficulties are that occasionally people stereotype both of us (he as controlling, me as frivolous or "loose"), I come from an Eastern Orthodox family, he comes from a Brahmin family so neither of our parents initially approved. His parents eventually got on board and we married in his hometown, my parents did not attend our wedding nor were they present when I gave birth to our daughter.

I am German, married an American. Had to jump through many hoops to get a VISA for the US. Then Green Card.

Got my dual citizenship a few years ago. It was not an issue for the American Government but for the German. They wanted me to come up with very good reasons why I think I need both nationalities.

The benefit for dual citizenship is that I can go back to Germany any time for as long as I want to without being treated as a foreigner. If I would have given up citizenship for Germany, i would only be able to go there for visitation.

The benefit to have the American citizenship was meant for the case that my American military husband gets stationed outside of the US and I need a job on base. They only hire citizens for base jobs. Example: We get stationed in Italy and even though I am European, I don't speak Italian and couldn't get a job out in town for that reason. I would have to work on base amongst English speaking people.


Feeling like a gangster when traveling home with two passports but no issues otherwise.
