Default FBI background checks for *legal* immigrants relaxed

Rules eased in U.S. to expedite green card applications - International Herald Tribune

Does it seem odd that we're relaxing the rules on legal immigration at a time when we're being told that if the NSA isn't allowed warrantless wiretaps, we'll be less safe?

I have absolutely no faith in the government of the United States to protect its citizens. This is simply par for the course. In a world racked by terrorism, it makes perfect sense to open your country up to anybody that wants to come in, for whatever reason....

The 9/11 hijackers were here on expired Visas. I have no faith that anyone allowed in will be deported if they find anything in the eventual background checks. It makes no sense whatsoever to relax these rules in order to let more people in more quickly. None at all.
