Can anyone help me with this, My daughter (25) is moving to the states and qualifies for an immigrants work visa (E2?) I'm not so lucky and don't know which visa, if any, that I can qualify for. I don't work due to ill health, although I am writing a book which I hope will get published and go on to write more. I am unable to do most household chores including cooking, I rely heavily on my daughter, and don't know how I would cope without her.
Does anyone here know that when my daughter applies for her visa can I apply at the same time for a family visa using any exceptional / special circumstances as an adult dependant?
Please check with your daughter which visa she will actually use.
uscis.gov is the official US immigration side and explains all options from soup to nuts. I have never heard of an adult latching onto an E2. If your income is soley based on your daughter please discuss this with the attorney handling her visa - just in case. Then comes the question of your day-to-day needs and medical insurance.
My apologies, my daughter will be getting Visa EB-2, employment 2nd preference visa as she has a Bachelors and Masters degree. All day to day needs will be covered by my daughter to include comprehensive medical insurance, she will be financially supporting me (Unless my book gets published and is successful)
OP, it's not promising, since you are not the spouse or child of the person with the visa.
Our health care system in the U.S. is VERY different from that in the U.K.; even if you were able to come to the U.S. (e.g. illegally), you would not be eligible for health care (since most U.S. workers get it through their employers) and that would not work at all for someone with health problems.
With the U.K.'s safety net, I'm surprised you can't get more help there? I do wish you luck.
EB-2 sounds like a employment based green card - something I also held at one time. Technically it is not a visa but a green card for permanent residence. I'm not sure she will be able to sponsor you as a green card holder. Once she becomes a US citizen she may be able to sponsor you at that time.
I would check with an immigration lawyer about options.

Can I latch on to her visa?
What is your daughter's plan to provide you with medical insurance?

A green card can be sponsored for an EB2 holder. EB2 is an employment based visa. OP is looking at five years green card to citizenship plus EB2 to green card which can take a while.
