Default Anger Grows in India over U.S. Visa Rules

The news comes at a time when many Indians already suspect the U.S. is trying to put a squeeze on the country's successful outsourcing industry. Each year, the American government hands out 65,000 H-1B visas, and Indian engineers make up the vast majority of those receiving them. However, as part of President Obama's economic stimulus package, Congress passed provisions to bar any U.S. company that receives bailout dollars from directly hiring workers on these H-1B visas.

Fueling India's Diaspora
In India, there has been a swift outcry. "This is just irrational protectionism," says Montek Singh Ahluwalia, deputy chairman of India's Planning Commission. "It makes no economic sense at all."

Anger Grows in India over U.S. Visa Rules - BusinessWeek

I am so sick and so tired of the world demanding that the US neglect its own citizens to prop up their economic survival. We are not the world's savior and we don't owe any of these countries a damned thing. It's time to take care of our own. I suggest that those who are totally co-dependent on our generosity learn to survive on their own. If they can't then perhaps they don't deserve to exist. Enough already . . .

Exactly. What are we supposed to do, simply give jobs, welfare and foreign aid to everyone in the world and allow unemployed Americans to sink into the abyss?

Is it our fault that India is a cesspool that makes Mexico look affluent by comparison, rhetorically speaking?

Actually, BHO supports the H-1B visa program. The Indians are pissed because they might not get the increases in numbers of visas issued that they've been lobbying for. BTW, does everybody here know that the largest house caucus is or was the India Caucus? No joke:

In the 106th Congress, the India Caucus had 120 plus members, making it the largest caucus of its kind, and this year the founder members of the caucus and the new co-chairs are confident that the membership would exceed even the record set last year.

Article is a little old, but nevertheless, even if they're not as powerful as they once were, they're still powerful enough to keep our borders open.
