Default Britain's Clown Shortage: Visa Rules Hit the Circus

Since this is a forum about immigration and not just Mexican immigration to the US... I thought I would post something on topic but not that same old (yawn) same old. But I know since this post is non-Mexican illegal immigration related this it will die quickly.

In many ways UK is a microcosm of the US. Though we are not struggling to fill clown positions it demonstrates the perils of not having a robust system and trained competent government staff. Frustrations of a problematic system, unsecured borders (air but more so land and water) are just two of the root causes of those more inclined to "jump the line" or for companies to skip the formal process. We create our own misery and yet blame those who have learned to work our systems to their advantage.

Britain's Clown Shortage: Visa Rules Hit the Circus - TIME

Quote:
...In November, the British Home Office introduced a points-based system to crack down on illegal immigration and create what its website describes as "a significantly more straightforward and transparent structure." It's easy enough for foreign trapeze artists and acrobats to secure the requisite points for entry into Britain based on their unique skills. But ringmasters say various problems with the new system — including faulty computer software and poorly trained embassy staff — are preventing international talent from reaching Britain's big tops. ...

In any Country no matter what the job it can be filled by paying a wage. The wage goes up until the position gets filled. The only way this doesn't work is by people cheating. In today's environment the cheaters are both employers and employees. Our biggest cheaters are Illegal Aliens who sneak in to undercut the process of wages being raised until they are filled.

You obviously didn't read the article. Becoming a full-time clown is not a desired form of employment of UK citizens no matter the wages paid. There is a need and it is not being met due to dysfunctional government and their systems used to process visas. The circus companies are trying to do the right thing but are frustrated by these barriers.

I think you may have not. All it says is they won't re-enable their Visas because they don't think these clowns are self sustaining with what they make. What does that tell us? There really isn't a real big market for clowns. If it paid enough to be a career vs a street performer people would do it. Lot's of people do things that are their passion that live like paupers.

We hardly need to add clowns to the list of people sucking social services.
