Moving to Florida from UK
Hi, we are 90% decided to emmigrate from UK, and really like the look of Viera, Florida. We are def decided on East Florida from previous visits. Have 1 11yr old and 2 18yr olds. Wondered if there was any ex-Brits who had already done that esp to that area? Any info/advice very welcome

There are more not getting their visa's renewed after they've gotten ehre and opened businesses then are getting new businesses. Additionally the minimum investment has gone up.
Your 18 year olds need to do their own petitions and be self sufficient or come on a student visa (ie will need to leave after college). They are legal adults and can't tag onto your petition.

Hi Skye,
It really depends up on how you plan to relocate. Most UK nationals use the E-2 visa, but this does have limitations as to what you can do. It is intended for those investing in an existing business or buying an already established business (and that those businesses meet certain criteria). Also you need to plan for your children, as once they hit 21 years old, your children can no longer stay in the US under your visa. Apologies if this is info you already know.

Hi, We moved over to Orlando 6years ago from Manchester. It was the best move we made. The children are 20 and 13 and they love it here. If you need any help with visas, locations etc let me know. I have helped lots of brits move across here. Its a very stressful move and its alot easier to talk 2 somebody that has already done it and has success.

You need to provide a lot more information to get any useful advice.
First things first - what type of visa are you expecting to apply for?
I suggest you visit a good immigration website - for starters try this one:
Pulaski's Ways: How to Live and Work in the USA : British Expat Wiki
Emigrating to the US is not easy.
Good luck!

I'd guess that since the OP hasn't returned to the thread since posting the question in April there's probably no point asking for more info from him/her. Cheers!

True
Might help some of those "I went on holiday to Florida and now I want to live there" posters though.
It never ceases to amaze me that so many people seem to assume that one can just "move to America" on a whim without ever seeming to actually realise that one needs a visa to do so and that such visas are not "easily" available.
Grumble over!!!!

Know what you mean. I generally refer people seeking blindly to go to the thread at the top of this page, "Immigration Links" which covers just about everything. Cheers!

Why don't you look on the Florida thread as well to read about the area you think you like to live
