And what about California ? Is this a place where being sponsored for an H1B would be easier ? Arizona maybe ?

What are my chances to find a company willing to go through the paperwork ? In which place would I be more lucky ? I was thinking about SF Bay area as there seems to be many tech companies over there.
I would be grateful to anyone here that can share experience, advices or ideas on that topic. Thanks.

We have an excess of skilled IT professionals. I welcome you anyways , but be ready to work in a job not related to your field.

If I were you, I would relocate to Sydney or Melbourne. There are great opportunities for It professionals and higher salaries and quality of life.

They only require you to have a bachelor`s degree and a few easy requirements to obtain the indepent skilled Visa Australia - Skilled Independent Visa

Australia has 21 million people and its land area is similar to U.S. (almost unlimited resources to its citizens). Unemployment 4.5% to 5%.
Second highest minimum salary in the world. (They invented the minimum wage).
They have an universal healthcare system, and the government pays you $5,000 dollars if you have a baby there. (they need more citizens in order to remain competitive in the global market...labor force...that`s why they welcome immigrants)
The women are gorgeous (Irish/British blooded). Australia is over 90% European (Nicole Kidman, Mel Gibson).
Best of lucks!
Ed.
