F2 visa doesn't allow you to get paid by a US employer. If my job search turns out to be unsuccessful, I myself plan on staying home with a child and work as a freelance programmer in my home country, while spending time in the US on H4 visa, as I think it's the easiest legal way to go (plus, even though the wage I'd be able to make is next to nothing in NYC, the money we could save for child-care in this way makes up for that). While I think that the best thing is to pay taxes in the country where it is used for your own benefit, the second best one is to pay them in the country that is at least a little bit interested. In addition, my relatives can benefit from it.

Given your status you may not work in the US.

F-2 visa holders are barred from employment. If you try to change your status, you face the potential of being asked to leave until the work visa is ready.

F-2 visa holders are not allowed to work, SSN or receive payment. not even from home, any work is illegal. If they do so, they are in breach of their status and subject to deportation.
