It should have been limited a long time ago.
If the president would have had the balls after 9/11 to say, "Anyone from the countries that the terrorists come from, or the countries that gave the terrorists IDs CANNOT come to the USA, even on a tourist visa, and those that are here, including students, must go home UNTIL Osama bin Ladin is IN THE CUSTODY OF THE U.S.A.," how much you want to bet they would have ratted him out instantly and he would be burning in Hell along with Saddam Hussein by now?
I think a solid majority of muslims born in America are true blue to us, not like the nasty ones in Europe. Look at what they pulled in London a couple of years back with the bombings. And some of the bombers were born in the UK.
It's the ones from the countries that practice radical islam that need to be kept out of here. It's horrible what they have done to Europe. But I think a lot of them are illegal aliens over there. Thank God it's harder for them to do that here. If I have to have illegal aliens, I'd rather have the ones we get from the south anyway. At least they have a connection to us in terms of solid Judeo-Christian religion, and as a result, are extremely unlikely to turn themselves into human bombs for a chance at a bunch of "virgins" in Heaven.

It really is shocking to fully realize that the general population has a tenious grasp of other cultures. It makes me sad for America, but hopeful that the younger generation (better educated and less ignorant in general) will lead the nation as long as we aren't brainwashed by the consumed, plastic masses.

I am part of Generation Y (In case you don't know what that is, it means I am young), I am a senior in college, and I don't consider myself ignorant by any means. I came from an extremely liberal family, and I consider myself quite progressive.
I like living in a country where women can wear whatever clothing they like. I like living in a country where gays can live freely. I like living in a country where I can eat raw oysters whenever I want. I love the progressive nature of Western nations. Muslims immigrants are regressing social freedoms in America and Europe. Disagree if you wish, but you are not correct.
By the way, have you read the news lately?
FBI Arrests Two in Terrorists Sting Operations in Dallas and Springfield - ABC News
It looks as though Muslims immigrants still have a fascination with blowing up buildings. These people make me sick, and they don't belong in my country.

Gen X'er here and I agree!
What really ticks me off about "moderate" muslims is how they NEVER, EVER stand up against the ones that use their religion as an excuse to satisfy their sick lust for violence, bloodshed, mass murder, genocide, and the oppression of women, to name a few.
Then the "moderate" muslims get mad if they are not respected or if people are suspicious of them.
If they are so "against" all the bloodshed and repressive mentalities of the terrorists and fundamentalists that want to operate like it is still the 10th Century, WHY DON'T THEY STAND UP AGAINST THEM AND TELL THEM TO STOP IT?
Secretly in agreement?
In fear? (Well, if their own kind fears them that much that they will not even speak up, then why are people on here actually arguing that fundamentalist muslims are perfectly fine, normal, and non-dangerous and should be allowed to immigrate to the US?)

Okay, now I feel it's shocking that WE WILL make same mistakes of previous generations. Do you actually feel that Muslim immigrants that move to a Western nation want sha’ria law? Typically that's not the case. Also, MANY Muslim women wear the traditional garb as part of retaining their heritage. Unfortunately, reason stands in the way of your assertion. Whatever you do, don't take logic. It's not your strong point.
Will there be "bad" elements of Muslim immigration. Yes. Just like there are bad elements of European immigration, or African immigration (for the sake of argument, acknowledging that most African Muslims are not orthodox).
I feel that this is a really hateful thread. Not only hateful, but EXTREMELY reactionary, and really illogical to say the LEAST.
"It looks as though Muslims immigrants still have a fascination with blowing up buildings."
Case in point. Regardless that MANY successful Muslim immigrants reside in highly affluent areas (Western Los Angeles for example), regardless that you have more a chance at dying from a lightning strike than from a terrorist attack, regardless of the fact that immigrants in general have lower crime rates than the native born population. Regardless of all this, you still maintain your position that Muslims are a HUGE threat to our national security. Not terrorist in general (be they Muslim or not), but Muslims... Need I remind you that we have had SEVERAL terrorist acts done by non-Muslim, native born Americans? Oklahoma City, Columbine, Santana, the Weather Underground, WTO protests in Portland...these are considered acts of terror. These were NOT done by Muslim immigrants.
I realize that this is an emotional time, but logic and reason should prevail. Let's continue progressing as a nation, rather than regress in a manner that would have us have immigration laws mirroring the 1400s and the late crusades.

The major issue to me is that hardly any muslims have stand up and said anything to denounce what other muslims have done and how it damages the opinion of how others look at muslims today.
In The Netherlands muslims were dancing in the streets after 9/11 to celebrate what had happened. The Dutch people were in shock about it and the whole muslim community was silence...nobody spoke up against these muslim extremist behavior...to me silence is also agreeing with them!
Just as Obama is silence about Acorn and many other things....but he came out to say that Kanye is a "jackass" so he knows what is going on....silence is agreeing!

Many moderate Muslims have denounced the terrorist attacks. We were busy chastizing them. I remember seeing a CNN special about this exact thing. However, it was overshadowed by anti-Muslim sentiment in the media at the time.
As for Acorn, let's face it...if Obama came out against Acorn it's more fuel to the fire for the conservative movement. He knows that if he were to decry the actions of Acorn (which were bad indeed) that it would be give more credence to this neo-con movement that is experiencing a resurgence of sorts. Why can't people denounce Blackwater, Lockheed Martin, Northrup Grumman, KBR, Armor Group, or DynCorp (both Armor Group and DynCorp received federal money...and both are involved in actual prostitution scandals).

As an Anglo-American seeing 50 years of the UK and 10 in the US I cannot believe the way my former country has changed simply because of non assimilation by immigrants.
Here in the US most immigrants assimilate into the melting pot.
My worry is the UK ( and to a lesser degree the US ) harbor second generation fundamental extremists and even if we banned all immigration we still have them here in secret cells dormant waiting for what they think is the ultimate sacrfice!!!
