Default School Districts - Pen Argyl / Wind Gap

Can anyone help.
We will be moving from the UK in the next few months and have finally decided to move to Northampton County as this appears to be the best place for Schools and not too bad for my Husband to commute to work at Mount Pocono.

We are looking to rent a property and really like the look of Pen Argl and Wind Gap School District but are having great trouble finding somewhere to rent in this area. What we need to know is is it possible to rent in another area (such as Bangor oe Roseto as we have found few rentals there) but send our children to Pen Argyl School we really dont want to have to uproot our children again when we do finally purchase a home in this area.

We have been advised that wherever we rent is where we have to send our children to School. Is this correct or is there anyway around this?

Many Thanks.

Hi and welcome to Pa............You have to rent where the school district is.
Just this week there was a notice in our paper that someone from the Stroudsburg area sent their kids to the Pleasant Valley School district for a few years.....and this was a few kids from this family. They are now billing them 80,000 dollars for the years they were in this school, rather then the one they were suspose to attend. You don't want to have a circumstance such as this happen to you. I know there are more rentals in Bangor and Roseto.......but, that seems to be a different school then you want. So I'd not do that. I am not sure but do Pen Argyl children go to Nazareth schools....if so you may find a rental in Nazareth. This you would have to check as I am just thinking about this as I have a neice in Pen Argyl, Wind Gap area. For this area try the Morning Call newspaper for listings of rentals.
I might add the Pleasant Valley Schools are very, very good and in Brodheadsville, Pa......There are back roads 115 up into Long pond,Emerald lakes ...and over to Pocono 940 and that area ,and the schools.
There is not a tremendous amount of rental apartments around........
There are some homes that you could rent. Check with the classifieds at
Pocono Record - serving Monroe and Pike Counties in Northeastern Pennsylvania for rentals. Or possiably Kohlar-Marvin Realty in Brodheadsville. Windgap area is small, not much in the line of apartments there..........but, you can always ask or contact a realtor in that town.
( Bangor, Roseto older towns a bit out of your way for Mt. Pocono)

Pen Argyl School District serves both Pen Argyl and Wind Gap, there is no Wind Gap school district. You definitely have to live in a town within the school district. Living in Bangor you would need to go to Bangor schools.
I live in the area and my children go to school in Pen Argyl, it is a very good district. Nazareth is also a good district and still close. Depending on where in Mount Pocono you will be commuting, it may not be such a quick commute, 80 is notorious for accidents and delays.

Some places to inquire about rentals would be Parkhill Realty phone 610-863-7070 website parkhillrealty.com Currently they don't have any rentals, but may get some before you move, and you can be put on a waiting list. Also the realtor we used when we moved is Ron Deceasre with Great American Real Estate, he may be able to help you. 610-863-6205

Hope this helps, if I hear of any rentals I will let you know.
Good luck!

If you plan to buy a house in Pen Argyl school district and can not find a rental within the district you could pay tuition to that school. It could be quite expensive though and you would have to provide your childs/childrens transportation. You could contact the district office and inquire about the tuition costs. Not a great alternative, but if you are certain that is the district you want to live in and the time period between rental and purchase will not be that long, you would be spared the problem of uprooting the kids.
