Having a pet is a COMMITTMENT - you just dont throw them away when they cause some inconvenience for you! My husband said he would rather commute they extra hour, than find another home for our dog. We will find a way where BOTH our kids and our dog will all be happy because that is the kind of people we are.

Thank you for the information... You have given me much to think about and some to be quite disappointed in.
Having a pet is a commitment? Really? I had no idea. I always thought our dog and cat fed themselves.
In any event, I was telling you what I would do. I would prefer to not have my kids ridiculed and marginalized in school, because we had to keep fluffy. Yes, it is horrible kids are picked on because of an address, but it does happen and is a sad fact of life.
These are my opinions, which you asked for by posting here. No need to get so defensive.

Default Green Acres - I live here

I live in Green Acres - now 3 1/2 years. I moved here from Easton, Berwick Street. Better schools, safer neighborhood for sure. Close to REading, 30 mins maybe depending on where in Reading. It's really quiet like a park. Doesn't look like mobile homes at all especially the section I'm in off Twin Ponds Road and Mosser Road. It was the second section to built. The first section has a lot of single manufac. homes in it and it does look more like a typical mobile home park. We have a great pool with tables and umbrellas, kiddie section, playground and it's nice to walk in here. Maybe 40 children all together live in it. Call Jerry our manager who is new. He puts together events to bring community - Santa at clubhouse had gifts for over 40 gifts, cookies. We're doing an Easter egg one too. He is young, enthusiastic, friendly and interested in us as people versus rent checks. Call him 610.398.2226.

Is this area family friendly? I understand that the school system is Parkland which is great, but is there a stigma on the kids that live in a mobile home park? My kids are worried about it, which makes me worried about it. I just cannot afford a 3 bedroom apartment in this area and we have a small dog, who is part of the family. New school within walking distance or biking distance from us in Green Acres. And its' right next to Rodale park where you can walk, ride a bike, have kids play in sand pit.

I read on one the websites that there is a problem with the water pressure in this park and you have to frequently boil your water. Does anyone know if this is true? As a family of 4, who uses quite a bit of water, this is a real concern. Up in this section where I live, I had one incident of water pressure once in almost 3 1/2 years. The water in this area is Hard Water which means it has lime/silt in it. Some people don't want to drink it. I've been drinking it with my Brita water since I moved here. And after drinking Easton water, it tastes a lot better. No problems.

How is the mangement? Are they friendly or do they just want their money, if you know what i mean? Jerry is our new manager. Other managers, it's true, only cared about the check. Jerry is young, enthusiastic, and cares about bringing a community together. He plans events, is in the office most days, is friendly and positive. He is a college graduate and knows how to help people find financing that works for them.

Do they do a good job with plowing/salting the roads during the winter? We get up pretty early (as Im sure many people do) are the roads taken care of by a reasonable time? Our plowing service has been right on top of the snow/ice thusfar. We have to do our own walkways, but the neighbors around me who work and some leaving at 5 to 6am in the morning, get on the road no problem. We are close to the major roads once you get out of Green Acres.

How is the cable/internet service/phone in this area? My kids are on the internet a lot and I do some work over the internet, so having good internet service is important. I use Service Electric and use the computer a lot for work, marketing, downloading, gaming, etc. Unless there's a power outage (happened once and we were out for 4 hours) it's fine. People have wireless too.

Any other information my family should know? Green acres is only 30 minutes away from EAston. After the snows melt, you should drive out and see for yourself whether you and your family would like it. Call Jerry. That's the best bet. Good luck to you and your family.

I REALLY aprreciate any information regarding Green Acres. I just want to be be able to make an informed decision. Thank you ahead of time for any responses![/quote]

Thank you yoga light for your recent post... it was very informative! It is nice to know that you are currently living there!

In other posts, it has been said that the kids living in Green Acres are ridiculed badly in the Parkland school system. Since you are currently there, would you mind letting me know your thoughts about this?

Thank you very much!

It doesn't take much for a child to find SOMETHING to tease another child about. If anyone looks differently, speaks differently, lives in a different area or even a different block - it can be something to tease them about. Just know that if teachers or parents know a child or children are being singled out due to 'differences', the behavior must be brought to 'light' so that a conversation can happen around what the children are feeling - those that are saying these biased things and those that are being biased against.

Children may hear biases at home or what they read about mobile homes. There may be a general idea of that. Manufactured homes, and most of the ones in Green Acres, for instance, are tied down, meaning they aren't really 'mobile'. They look like single family homes. The people who live here work for a living, or are retired. The children here are like other children - they play, they play video games, they go on the Parkland School buses.

As a school teacher, I would encourage Parkland School District to start bringing out this bias you speak about - and other biases (which I'm sure there are) and get to the root of anti-social behavior.

That's what I have to say on the subject.
