Every house seems over $6500-8000 a year. Sheesh. Maybe this is why so many homes are up for sale? I assume they raise them every year? Even in birdboro they are high.

I live in Lower Macungie township and property taxes are high. There is virtually no industry in this township, so the tax burden falls on the homeowners. I am not complaining though - our schools are excellent, and the bulk of the $$ goes to pay for that.

Agree with KristyLiz. You get what you pay for. Our taxes are high and our schools are good.

We live in North Whitehall and our taxes are quite a bit lower. We have excellent schools as well!

Hi guys,

My wife and I are from NJ and are trying to estimate taxes...this is probably going to be an easy question to answer..I probably spent close to 4 hours searching for the Mill rate and ended up finding some stuff that seems way off...

What is the property/school tax in Allentown (Parkland school district)? say on $270,000 - how much would I pay per year? Is there an official website where these things could be checked calculated?

Thanks a lot in advance!

I came from NJ and believe me the taxes will be WAY lower than in NJ. If you know a specific address, you can go onto the lehigh county assessment records and search for that address.

Most of the "family" type homes built within the last 25 years (4BR, 2.5BA, 2,500-3,000 square feet, 2 car garage, quarter acre lot in a development) seem to be in a range of $5,000-$10,000 in annual taxes, depending on the township.

Taxes are considerably less than that if you stick with an older, smaller house, and avoid high-tax school districts like Saucon Valley and Allentown.

If you have a specific property address in Lehigh county, go to this site, and add up the local/school/county taxes to get the annual total:

Your schools are not bad, but I wouldn't put them in the same league as East Penn, Parkland or Southern Lehigh. SchoolMatters (http://www.schoolmatters.com/schools.aspx/q/page=sc/scid=16858,15830,16529/pid=cmp/up_scid=16858,15830,16529/up_pn=1,1,1/up_ust=PA/up_csa=3 - broken link)
