i grew up in slatington, so i would say it to be decent, if you would want more property try looking into slatedale or emerald, its more country area, as slatington is just a small town.
if you are looking in lehigh county check in to schnecksville/ parkland area.
it is more expensive in that area but they have what i believe to be the best school district around.
slatington school district wasn't too bad. although kids who were heading down the wrong path usually stayed in that direction. i graduated in 2000 so alot has changed since then. i don't remember anything unsafe happening while in school. the most that would happen was fake bomb threats once in a while but that was about it. just kids wanting to get out of class for alittle. there was never anything like some of the schools where kids are shooting and stabbing each other. for the most part it was a calm relaxed setting.
in 2000 they started to become more secure, i believe in 2001 they installed video cameras and i have heard they now have metal detectors, i dont know if they really have metal detectors but the video cameras are there.
the bad thing about being in town was that middle school and highschool students walked to school for the most part. there would be buses driving past us while we walked! i lived pretty close to the other side of town and had to walk.
it really want bad in the spring/fall months but in winter it sucked. kids did make it to school safe although some ended up in trouble on the way.
there is alot of drugs in slatington. i will admit to going threw a phase in highschool. i grew out of it once i graduated, but alot of others did not.
i was not a very good student so the teachers pretty much ignored me, i didnt really cause trouble but i didnt really pay attention much. i would say on a scale of 1 to 10 the teachers are mostly an 7-8 there are however a couple teachers that will go the extra mile to help students if they want and need help. i am sure alot of problem areas have been approved on in the recent years.
if you would consider that area check into the other small towns i mentioned. it would be out of town and possibly a less chance of your kids getting involved in mischief. good luck!!! if you have any other questions dont be afraid to ask!
