Jacobsburg park is in our town of Bushkill twp - great trails for hiking, biking, swimming in beautiful Bushkill Creek...Town is 98.6% white...Schools are top rated and from my experience so far with my 4 year old in soccer through the school system, it has a great welcoming family feel. I feel a very strong bond to the school - lots of spirit there and I can't wait for my daughter to start pre-k in the Fall. The town is pristine in cleanliness. Homes are not on top of each other. It has a wholesome, rural feel, with beautiful homes and views to take youre breath away. You can easily find a home in your price range that will fit your exact criteria and actually more. I can't say enough great things about my beautiful town : ) Sounds like you belong here ; )

Kellyi, You are right - Nazareth is less then 30 minutes to Allentown. I personally would look closer first, but I was wrong about the distance. It's great that you love Nazareth! My Mother in Law grew up there.

I live in Upper Macungie which is also in Parkland School District. We've been happy since we moved here two years ago, we have a pool just for our development since you said you were big on swimming, East Penn and Southern Lehigh are also great districts, IMHO Southern lehigh is more upscale and expensive compared to other areas (not that that's a bad thing). If you're going to be working in allentown I would suggest staying a little closer to the city since some of the highways can get really crowded around rush hour. I don't know much about the nazareth area but i have a friend who lives they seem to be happy, wherever you decide I'm sure you'll love it there too.

LV Native,
Guess that was some kind of attempt at humor? If so, it was comic gold.
No. Comedic gold is saying you are moving to the Lehigh valley and want 80% white folk. Although there is nothing wrong with that, white folk are falling fast as the majority of residents in the Lehigh valley.

if being around your own kind is number 1 on your list, you are moving to the wrong area. Try Scranton and it's suburbs, it's like 98% white.

We own two homes, one in Kingston (near Scranton) and one in Orefield (parkland s.d.). When I have to go down to the LV for work or to check how my tenant(my brother) is keeping up with my home, the first thing I notice is all the Hispanics. It pains me to admit it, but living where there are barely any, it's noticeable. Just a friendly insight on the Lehigh valley and your concern about white folk living there.

Oh and more food for thought.....your job in the west end and the many of the residential communities in that area are filled with Indians, Pakistani, and Asians who work at air products and other companies.
I have been at Lone Lane Park, which I believe is lower macungie and in an affluent neighborhood (homes over 350k) and been one of a couple white families there and in the minority. I have no problem with this, but you may.

Both Parkland and East Penn School districts have trailer park kids going to school there **gasp** so you may want to consider that. Those pesky little poor kids asking for free lunches can be a drag. TBT might be able to fill you in
on the socio-economic classes in southern Lehigh, as I have no clue.

*sorry for the double post, but I can't scroll in the comment box on my iPad for some reason.

I have to call into question the stats in the chart. I personally know two families who are Indian(not American Indian) that have three kids at Parkland H.S. I don't see any under "other"
I will have to ask them if they identify themselves as white.

They identify themselves as "Other - Indian", but they know some families identify as Asians(which I didn't think of).

kellyi,

Thanks for the info and insight...even though we have more homework to do, Nazareth is probably our top choice based on our previous visits to the area.

sherwin,

As to the swimming, besides the high-school level, do you know if there are any area swim teams, be they considered "recreational" or "competitive"? The point of reference for my question is that where we live there are many neighborhood pools, with most of them having swim teams that compete in the various swim leagues. Anyway, it's not a "must have" for us, but being involved with our swim team has been great for our kids--and us--so just something we'd like to continue if possible.
