Default Looking for a rental walking distance fishing, rivers, lakes

Hi,
So my story is alittle unique and I would appreciate some help

My husband has been diagnosed with a degenerative terminal condition, We currently live in Philadelphia

he is no longer working and wants to be in an area where he can walk to fish and relax and enjoy the outdoors, He does not drive at all

We, me and our two boys, 11 and 14, would be staying in the city and visiting on the weekends and he, my husband, will be staying with another family member at the "new" house

Our needs would be the area, rural is ok as long as he has the amenities he is looking for, he also has a small boat so a place with a launch would be ideal.

2-3 bedrooms, pets a must as we would bring our one small dog with us on the weekends

trying to keep the commute down to about 2 hours from center city philadelphia.

Any suggestions on the areas we should be looking in?

thanks for your help

I am thinking that a rental would be easier to find for you in the Poconos, lakefront somewhere in the corridor close to the Turnpike to provide easy access for your weekend commute from Philadelphia. You can also post on the Northeast PA board - I believe a few realtors check that board and perhaps they could help find something for you.

Some helpful things to question would be:
Lakefront/Riverfront/waterfront - how close of a distance do you need to the water?
Your budget?
Steps/accessibility?
Any other requirements?

OK, let me think...

There is the whole Delaware River basin, very scenic and beautiful, but definitely purchase renter's flood insurance if you find something there (Floodsmart | Flood Insurance | Flood Maps | Flood Risk | Flood Information), you could search on both the PA and NJ sides of the river for something right on the water. I will look for some for you later in my area when the kids go to bed.

Thinking....

Strangely enough, we don't have that many large lakes with cottages in the Lehigh Valley. Everyone that I know that has a place at a lake owns a property in the Poconos. Any lakes sort of in the LV (Lake Nockamixon) area are in State Parks. I wonder if one way to go about it, would be to pull up a satellite view of the Lehigh Valley and look for some bodies of water. I personally, would hesitate to get something along a River because of possibility of flooding.

If he can give up the boating a good area would be right around the Lehigh River. There is a neighborhood in Allentown right by Lehigh Parkway Elementary school ( mostly twin homes) that you may be able to find rentals. This neighborhood is walking distance to the paths around the river. A good amount of people go there to fish, jog, play in water, walk dogs. An apartment complex within walking distance to the river is called Regency Towers. Not sure what their rates are or per policy. I've been inside and it's nice. Has more of a home feel then other apartment complexes.
