My brother just received a job offer in Easton, PA. Does anyone know if there are any major cities in close proximity to Easton. I know that Easton is a small town, but it would be nice to know if there was a major city that he could travel to on his off days to experience the big city amneties that Easton does not have.

How far is NY,NY and Philadelphia from Easton? Also, how far is Pittsburgh from Easton? Are there any nice major cities in New Jersey that are in close proximity to Easton? Please help me out as he is in the process of making a decision about his offer and this information would help out a lot. Thank you always!

Easton is about an equal distance from New York City and Philadelphia - around an hour and a half drive. Actually slightly closer to New York.

New Jersey doesn't really have any "major cities" and I can't think of anything you'd want to spend time in where you wouldn't already be in NYC (e.g., Hoboken).

I don't know the Lehigh Valley incredibly well, but he'd probably want to locate in Bethlehem, which isn't far from Easton, if he wants something resembling an urban life along with relative safety.

Thank you so much for this. I will let him know. What would be the best way to commute between NY and Easton and/or Easton and Philly? Would it be the train and is that very expensive. Also, would the commute be longer than 1.5 hrs if he rode the train?

No trains but you can take the bus to NY for about $40 or you can drive to the closest NJ transit stop and take the train. Driving is the fastest. Amtrak does not currently have any routes in the Allentown/Bethlehem/Easton area.
Allentown is the closest bigger town. There is an international airport in Allentown. Lafayette College is in Easton. maybe check out their website for ideas on what students do for fun. They usually know the cheapest things to do.

Easton is actually a small city and has a population of 27,000 in city limits. http://www.city-data.com/city/Easton-Pennsylvania.html It's one of three cities here in the Lehigh Valley. The other two are Allentown and Bethlehem. Most of our new posters on this forum are moving from NYC and Northern New Jersey to here.

Easton Main Street - http://www.eastonmainstreet.org/ And arguably the best theater in the Lehigh Valley - http://www.statetheatre.org/

The closest PA city to Easton is Bethlehem, not Allentown. Might be good to look at a map...https://maps.google.com/maps?oe=utf-...ed=0CAgQ8gEwAA

If his job were in Easton, commuting from NYC or Philly is too far. Certainly, he could visit on weekends, but daily would be at least 1.5 hours each way (I guess most of it is against traffic, but parts of 78 in NJ and 76 in Philly are rough both ways). There are a ton of colleges nearby, if he's young and if not family life is nice.

I'm not really sure why the OP's brother didn't just look on a map or do a google search first. To think that Easton is a small town in the first place is kind of strange. Is there another Easton in Pennyslvania?? And I'm not trying to insult you TN2A2, but that would be the first thing I would have done.

Trust me, no insult taken. Wow, there is a vast realm of life and intelligence far far away from CD for me to ever take insult from a poster...on a message board, whom I've never met. But, thank you!

Good talk!

I think a lot of the posters are trying to up their thread counts in order to win most informative poster. Why else would two people who admit to not knowing the area answer the OP's post?
