My husband and I are moving to allentown for 3 years. We are both in our late 20s no chilldren and are looking for a modern, social, fun area to live in. More of a main street/city feel with restaurants , bars and shopping. We would move to Philadelphia but the commute is too much for me. I understand nothing will be like a big city but just a fun town is good enough. Any suggestions on which towns are most lively with relatively young people within 15-30 min from allentown. Thanks!

I assume you are renting upscale. If you are buying then please post.

Saucon View is an upscale brand new apartment community with easy access to Interstate 78. Rents are a hefty $1100-$1670 per month.
Sagra Bistro and Braveheart Highland Pub are the closest upscale eateries. The area is very well-to-do, with multi million dollar homes nearby but it's not a pedestrian area.

Riverport Condos on the south side of Bethlehem is 172 condos in an old factory. You can find these for rent on zillow. There is no rental office since they are individually owned, but people paid a lot for these condos. They can be rented for $1100-$1700 usually. Sports bar and Fitness Club on the premises. It is a short walk to a number of college type bars and restaurants, and a long walk (or a short cab) across the river to Historic Downtown and the finest restaurants in Bethlehem.

The unit in the video has been on sale for all year. The asking price of $199,900 was dropped to $164,900. It is a 2 bedroom 1 bath 2,160 sq ft. As I said many units are available for rent.

Rents right in Historic Downtown Northside are rare and are usually over $2K per month. Considering your age, I would live in Riverport where the bars are open late, and go to Historic Downtown for fine dining. Main Street gets very quiet late at night.

Northside Downtown (historic buildings start from 1741)
Tapas on Main, and Edge Restaurant are examples of upscale dining on Northside Bethlehem.

Southside Downtown (mostly built between civil war and WWI)
Pennsylvania Sands Casino is about 2 miles from Riverport on the Southside. You can always go for a drink or to the nightclub. Olive Branch Syrian Restaurant is an example ethnic dining on the southside. Also Thai, Mexican, Asian Fusion, and Seafood.
24 East Asian Bistro is a very short walk from Riverport

South side can be a little tough, so exercise urban caution. Bethlehem had it's first shooting death in three years on the Southside at the Puerto Rican Beneficial Society, so you are likely to see that in the news. But it's nothing like Philadelphia (or center city Allentown).

Definitely look to rent a condo or apartment on or near Main Street in Bethlehem. Lots of restaurants, bars and shopping. Beautiful Main Street and lots to do in the area.
