Allentown Schools are not the end of the world they have some great folks and programs. I have been volunteering for several years now most recently at Roosevelt Elementary. I am constantly impressed with the programs and the staff and their dedication to their students. Recently they won this national award. Mrs. Katherine Jackson of the Community Contact office brings another new and exciting world to the students of Roosevelt.

Roosevelt Elementary will receive their award along with Harmon Johnson Elementary in Sacramento, CA, and Hillcrest Elementary in San Francisco, CA – all three are winners in the individual school category.

Marvine Village in Bethlehem has very dedicated teachers as well. It's not that there aren't well meaning hard working people among the poor, it is just that most people that go to this forum are middle or upper middle class, and want the best value for their real estate purchase and their families.

I don't think anyone here has been complaining about the school quality. Those teachers and staff do their best I am positive. What the urban district folks need is parents who will be concerned with the education of their children and set a good example for those same children. Even the poorest of the poor can walk their kids to the library and borrow some books and read to them. Now, I realize many do not do that, but we most need is familial involvement to have successful students, especially in the early years IMO. What child is going to pay attention in school if they are hungry, sick, worried about going home to an unstable household, etc.? It doesn't take lots of money to provide these things, but it does take lots of effort.
