I could be wrong about this, but I think Northwestern SD concentrates more on sports than academics or the arts. Sure is a pretty area though!

It's an extreme lifestyle choice. Your talking about 4% of the population of the county on a third of the county land. Roughly 47,000 acres of the school district is zoned agriculture or vacant (that is an area three times the total acreage of Upper Saucon Township).

A school district that big with the same population of a 100 city blocks in Allentown is probably going to excel at sports and not have the big money for arts programs.

I personally don't think one hour commutes and long drives for virtually anything else is a reasonable tradeoff for having a little more land around a house. I think that is what shrubbery is designed for.
