I was going to reccomend the Slatebelt area as well. Nazareth, Pen Argyl, Parts of Bangor, Roseto. All about 45 minutes to Allentown.

I just checked for you as far as the "reasonable" part. The cheapest house in Wind Gap is listed right now at $189,900. There are some lower-priced ones in Pen Argyl, Roseto, and Bangor right now, but they are going to need some work or be very tiny in the lower price range.

As the area gets more developed, the commute to Allentown gets worse and worse depending upon the time of day. Route 512 (the main Slate Belt artery) is getting so slow during rush times as well.
