Route 22 (Penn: real estate, houses, to live in)

Can someone enlighten me on this route 22. When we are searching for houses, there seems to be alot of mention about this route 22. Where does this lead to that make it so popular?

Route 22 is the highway through the heart of the valley. It is at many times a nightmare, with traffic back-ups, accidents, and many areas of design which are completely obsolete. However, it is advertised in the real estate listings because commuters who work outside the area generally want to live in close proximity to either Route 22 or Interstate 78 in the Valley. It also runs right next to the Lehigh Valley Mall.
