So true. I'll take the smaller, unknown, 'mom and pop' establishments over chains anyday. Esp in Pennsy.

I try to be good when I cook at home, I use mostly all natural or organic foods. I am allergic to yellow #5 and its in everything.
BUT when I eat out, I do tend to throw caution to the wind.
My daughter is gone and I think I am going to order something from Chilis and have a nice night all to myself.

When we go home to visit in Bethlehem and Allentown we never eat at home and we never ever had an issue with places not taking kids. You have a zillion diners, mom and pop stops, neighborhood restaurants, inns, etc. I do not know the name of it now, perhaps Airport Inn, was Schoenersville Inn, Minsi Trail, The Lantern, Collins may be gone, Celebrations, a couple nice places near Tilghman Street past 15th, Jack Creek, etc, etc. Hellertown hotel used to have some decent meals. All I am saying is that there is lots of good food, maybe without bells and whistles, but a good meal in an easy room.

Stefanos on 191 usually has no wait. They have a nice mix of Italian and American food. The Sunrise Diner is fantastic...yes, it is diner food, but its really good. Taste of Italy is another of my faves for pizza. Johnnys Gyros on William Penn has the best gyros in town (if you like Gyros). Starters has great bar food, but leave the kids at home-nothing worse than kids in an establishment that is really meant for adults. Avoid the chains...there are some really nice local restaurants that really have no waits. We went to Bravo on Saturday...the wait was 2+ hours!!! We had reservations and we still had a half hour wait. People in the valley do nothing on the weekends except eat or go to the movies.
Oh...I saw someone mentioned Minsi Trail Inn...I think they closed, but they had great food.

My 14 year old son went with 10 friends to Tappan Japanese restaurant up on Cedar Crest near Dorney Park this afternoon. (My older kids just went to the local diner!) Anyway, he and his friends had a great time watching the chef at the Hibatchi grill.
Glad to hear the Minsi Trail is open again!
I think Kristyliz's complaint is that you can't wait even 15 minutes when you have hungry little kids and most places around here are busy on Friday nights. I don't know how we all (myself included) got into dissing the chains because any restaurant is busy on Friday nights if they have good, reasonably priced food, aren't they?

My mistake toobusy, Minsi Trail is still closed, just my brother in law got some Lobsters from them for a birthday and brought them home, I thought they were open, but I guess he just had it done as a favor since he knows them.

Taste of Italy on Airport Road is good, as well. Not a chain.
