I am new to the area and looking for housing at about $200k or less. The quality of school district is important to me for home resale though I do not have kids myself. Low crime is also important, as is air quality. Looking at homes online, Hellertown and Salisbury Township look good from afar - could someone local to these areas help with the difference between the 2 areas or suggest others? Anywhere in the ABE would work for me. Thanks.

Salisbury is a weird township and school district. It's long and narrow and butts right up against Allentown. There is no downtown area at all - it's an area. Great location to get to route 78. The school district is a good one.

I prefer Saucon Valley School district and Hellertown except for the big problem they're having with their teachers. SVSB Attorney: Teacher Contract 'Does Not Appear to Be Remotely Achievable in the Foreseeable Future' - Saucon SourceSaucon Source Hellertown is a really nice little town with cute stores, close to routes 78 and 378. They're library is about to grow. Nice parks and part of the rail trail. If you are going to be close to Bethlehem or Allentown, I would choose Bethlehem.

Taxes in Hellertown are high for what the houses are. Salisbury is much more reasonable. Crime is fairly low in both areas in my experience. Air quality is probably about the same in both.
