Default Nice areas around easton??

We may be relocating and Easton is one of the areas we may look at. My husband will commute to NJ. Please tell me about the College Hill, Fork Twn, and Palmer area. From reading on here it seems Easton has crime problems but what about these areas? We have two small children that are not in school yet but we are coming from Raleigh, NC which I'm sure has it's crime but where we live it is very safe so I want to make sure we move to a similar place.

College Hill, which is where Lafayette College is located, is perhaps the nicest section in Easton. You probably wouldn't have problems there except some drunk college students occasionally. Obviously the further away you live from the college the less that issue will be.

Palmer Township is generally a nice area too, though it is suburbia.

Default Nice areas around Easton

The majority of crime is in downtown Easton. I was born and raised in Easton and College Hill is nice. Forks and Palmer Townships are not in the downtown area and are both nice areas with a little more "breathing room" than College Hill. If you want to be in a more rural area, you can consider Williams Township. It's still considered Easton, but your children would in the Wilson area school district, rather than Easton school district. Williams Township is also very close to I-78 for a quick commute to NJ.

Sophie...I'm not that familiar with Raleigh but I have spent a little time there years ago when my brother lived there. You mention wanting to live somewhere similar. Have you visited Easton yet? There is really nothing around this area that would compare to where you are now. I live 20 or 25 minutes west of Easton and have little personal knowledge of it. We basically go there for the Crayola Factory which we love. You'll find the look of the city very different because there are buildings everywhere that are so much older than what you'll find in Southern cities. I would really search this boards past posts for info on schools and crime. Easton seems to have some problems in those areas. I think Palmer township is supposed to be nice. If you are a southerner, don't worry at all about being accepted. I've found people here to be very welcoming and they love southern accents. Good Luck with your move.

Easton : College hill (aka Lafayette college) is very nice, safely away from crime but expensive. South side, downtown, etc. I do not recommend. Palmer township and forks township are safe and nice, although the properties are getting older. Prices are higher, and those neighborhoods have gotten literally flooded with jersey commuters. The reason I do not recommend anywhere in Easton (easton, palmer, forks) is because Easton High School is questionable in my mind. Maybe drive an extra 10min and live in nazareth sd. if you have kids.

As posted above, the Crime is more of an issue in Downtown Easton. The other areas listed are nice, but some are part of the Easton School district which I would try to avoid.

About 1/2 south of easton, is palisades school district. I have lived in this school district for ten years and my kids have gone through elementary and middle school. I also know easton, which is more city like. Palisades is more rural and country feeling!

That is surely why Forks Twsp needs its own high school.......because of the Easton High having a bad rep. There is reasons for that.......known personally.
A High School should be for learning, not for walking out of......and notfor not taking the school work seriously.
Sad.......because Forks has wonderful new homes and it is the hub to so many wonderful places to visit, shop and be entertained.

LOL - try to pass that one Summering! Forks taxpayers are already up in arms about lots of things

Actually, if you don't like sprawlishness, I would avoid Forks and Palmer. Both townships had so much rapid development that their infrastructures are severely taxed and things like traffic and public services have quickly become major issues.

Where in NJ will your husband be commuting to? This could be a big factor in where to look outside of Easton either North, south or west.
